I don’t know if you’re aware of the Jack Straw Writers Program, but it’s a pretty cool thing for local writers to get involved in. The deadline for 2009 applications is today, so I thought I’d send this your way in case you might want to blog about it.
It’s probably too late now, but here is all kinds of information about why Jack Straw is a good thing, here are the applications, and here are the FAQs. Notable former Jack Straw writers include John Olson and David Schmader.
On the not-too-late front, tomorrow is the first day of the 10th annual National Novel Writing Month. I’ll be embarking on my fifth novel. I heartily recommend the experience to everyone, even if writing isn’t your thing. It’s what we call a character-builder.

God, I did NaNoWriMo a couple years ago and it was so stressful. Then, after the month was over and I had successfully written 50,000 words or whatever, my laptop was stolen. Awesome.
Paul -- what's your username, so the rest of use mopes can track you and be inspired? Or, something....
God their site is so fucking slow.
Or perhaps you should post some excerpts from your previous novels?
:)
I was just about to drop out of NaNoWriMo until I read #1's inspirational post.
Thanks Paul! And interesting you should mention NaNoWriMo; I was thinking about giving that a go myself, even though I haven't written so much as a short story since high school.
My username is Paul Constant. Everyone who reads Slog who's playing should friend me, please.
Yay nanowrimo!
