2008 Obama Rally Set Up
posted by October 30 at 8:56 AM
onOK, things are getting interesting here in Obama’s adopted home town. The outfit that runs Lollapalooza is in charge of the Grant Park rally, and, besides the lucky 70,000 or so who will be inside the fences and through Secret Service checkpoints, the city is bracing for a million people to head downtown. This is making lots of folks very nervous, since the last few big downtown events—Fourth of July fireworks, the Taste of Chicago—had lots of gang violence and several murders.
And, of course, pinheads are trying to scam the non-transferable tickets on Craigslist.
And no beer. One more reason I’ll be on the outside, phoning it in.

Good. If the election is stolen you'll already all be out in the streets. It'll be a big time-saver.
Thanks for the link, I was wondering how many were wounded by the Spanish university car bomb.
@1,
If he somehow loses is the main reason that there is no way I am going down there. Scary.
In other Chicago news, today is the last day of early voting. I dropped by the site closest to me yesterday and the line was down the block, same thing this morning. The site downtown, however, had a 1.5-2 hour wait. Craziness... I wanted to vote early, but I think I'll just go on the 4th.
I partially blame the newspapers -- I would have gone last week, but the Sun Times didn't release the last of its down-ticket endorsements until this morning.
I'm kind of shocked I got a ticket. I never check my email. My bf told me and I got two more for friends right away. Probably won't believe it until I actually get the damn thing in the email. Everyone else I know was waitlisted.
@2 Sorry about the mistaken link. Fixed.
I'm staying home -- on the floor. They're going to shooting like it's New Year's eve. Expect casualties to mar the celebration.
I want to go so bad! I go to school at UChicago. We're all pissed that we couldn't get tickets. I hope that by using my Montana address on my ticket request I can get bumped to the top of the list. I mean, it's kind of a swing state this year...
Just because you can't drink beer inside doesn't mean you can't get good and hammered BEFORE going in.
Even if you won't end up having half as much fun if you do that.
Hey, what bar will you be watching from? I'm on the waitlist, too, so I need to find a spot downtown to watch from.
