Great post. It's a terrible loss.

This is a terrible shame. I agree that they need to start charging a "suggested" donation. If you can't pay, that's fine you still get to view the art, but perhaps a suggested donation will nudge those who can afford to pay into throwing at least a couple of dollars (if not more) in.

I'm sure you will keep us posted on their fundraising efforts so those of us who are able to contribute can.

The budget cuts were a tough reality for the Frye, and it couldn't have been a feel-good decision. I know Robin has been incredibly supportive and enthusiastic of this program and its mission, so maybe what's most disheartening (and the obvious and tired thought) is this had to happen in a city that is still so deep with wealth. Regardless, Yoko demonstrated great faith in her teaching artists. They were given freedom to work with their strengths and explore concepts relevant to their own work. This type of freedom in teaching can be quite rare for artists. I greatly valued this opportunity.

It runs on income from warehouses??? Wow.

At any rate, as sad as all this sounds, Ott is apparently a highly rgarded and innovative professional -- here's hoping she lands on all fours quickly.

Susie, are you the Susie Lee mentioned in the post? If so, I think we know each other from another time and place (Greece, Cambridge...) If not, sorry for being cryptic and weird.

This is a wonderful post, even if it's begging for a continue under the fold link ...

Remember, if it occupies more than half a screen, it's fold material ... jump, baby, jump!

Please Slog, don't double post me...

@6 I could be, if you want me to be. For my favorite online boyfriend I'll gladly role play. I'll be Arianna Huffington, you be Brian Williams and we'll "interview" each other. I give good "interview"...

I interned with Yoko over the last seven months, helping with many of the programs mentioned above. I can honestly say that I would not have ever gotten involved with the Frye if not for hearing Yoko speak about art education at tuesday morning Klatch. I have had countless invaluable conversations with her in regards to these issues and many more and I am certain that her work continue to be invaluable in the Seattle arts community wherever she ends up.
