Yes We Can Hitch Ourselves to the Bandwagon

posted by on August 20 at 10:20 AM

I mentioned this yesterday during the primary night Slog-fest, but it seems worth floating on the day side, too. It appears that Obama’s mantra of “Yes we can” is taking off as a down-ticket campaign slogan, popping up in spontaneous cheers at the primary night party for Gov. Gregoire and stamped across the cover of a new glossy handout that I received at the primary night party held by eastside Congressional candidate Darcy Burner:

There’s been a lot of talk in political circles about whether (and how) Obama’s candidacy will provide the promised lift in down-ballot races, and yesterday’s double shot of non-Obama “Yes we can”-ing here in Washington made me wonder if there’s some sort of coordinated roll-out of “Yes we can” as the official Democratic rallying cry this year.

Burner told me that’s not the case. “It’s not coordinated,” she said. “It’s just resonant.”

Um, Eli, that's a nice slogan.

But -- She -- Didn't.

huh. So when re-posting you're no longer one of the split personalities of the individual known as SECB?

Seriously, who thought it would be a good idea to do that last night?

Hell, why not just leave names out entirely, and post everything under the name "Slog"? At least people might read Mudede's posts before they label them as drivel, and ECB might not be blindly attacked so much (Either that, or everyone else will be attacked more...)

can we stop pretending that Obama invented "yes we can"? please?

You haven't nutted all over it yet? Oh, same picture. My bad.

This sounds like a great time to link that viral vid of and Scarlet Johannson doing "Yes We Can" ...

I want to know what ECB has to say about Maureen Dowd's column today. Please?

"Yes we can" only reminds me of the Mexican-American Labor movement mantra of the 60s headed by Cesar Chavez: "Si se puede!" = "Yes we can!"

Yeah, I'm not surprised Darcy said the campaign wasn't coordinated. Especially considering Obama opted out of coordinated campaigns nationwide, and his campaign encourages party volunteers to volunteer exclusively for Obama rather than for state and local races.

Because, you know, the only way to win this thing is to make sure all the other democrats lose.

Awesome party building though- invite a ton of people into your tent, and then throw everyone of them under the bus.

If the primary vote ratios are any indication, she's still in the exact same boat as 2 years ago: trailing Dave Reichert by several points, and still all about presentation without substance, while Reichert has her outkicked in the "I actually know what the fuck I'm doing" department.
