On the Radio

posted by on August 22 at 8:58 AM

I’ll be on KUOW’s Weekday this morning talking with other journalists about the news of the week, including the recent primary in Washington State, the upcoming Democratic National Convention, and that endless Seattle public toilet saga.

That’s 94.9 FM, beginning at 10 a.m., if you want to listen. Any other news we should discuss?

Tim Burgess' blog and the new City Council policy. If you could make a specific point about how it seems like Council is keen on making themselves seem quite irrelevant, that would be great.

Maybe you can ask why it is that the West Seattle Post Office is delivering Democratic Campaign literature two days AFTER THE ELECTION?! (I speak here of the Gregoire-Obama large pictorial Gubernatorial Primary Mailing which only showed up in my mailbox at 5:00 pm on Thursday, August 21st.)

Something very fishy here. Is somebody in the Westwood Village Post Office (on Trenton) trying to squelch Gregoire? Will this happen again come the General election? (My house is in the 98136 zipcode, very close to the post office.)

Did this happen elsewhere in Seattle as well?

Sound off on it on the air and callers should tell you yeah or nay. Very curious.

M.

The near-extinction of native Olympic oysters.

Instead of covering the DNC how about covering the fact that it's a tie race, basically, right now?

Isn't it newsworthy that after several months exactly what the Obama critics said would happen, has happened:

-he's not so vastly more electable
--he, too, has a past which will limit his appeal
--the fact he sweept up delegates in Idaho and Utah and states like that doesn't mean shit about how electable he is in the general election, and
--once again, it always comes down to basically the same swing states like Ohio and whether or not an urban northern liberal will connect with working class folks and the Bubba vote that the GOP always steals away because of focusing on cultural issues and because the Democrats fail to connect on economic issues.

So there hasn't been this big change. And what's more, he's not exactly for unity if he can't bring himself to unite the Democratic party by naming as VP the one who also got 18 million votes, is he?

So without the unity, and without the change, our hopes are diminished.

Oh I know, this is all taboo. Sorry!! Never mind!

Go talk about the gossippy chit chat about the convention, that's more important than whether we win or not.

Conky Conlin and what the hell is with this one - a series of total off the wall council resolutions while Rome burns.

Little goats, need to raise more food in the city, flawed bag mess, and now censorship of other peoples sites (other coundil members) - and I bet this list is just the ones I remember.

What gives? There is more scorn for the council and their non problem solving than I have ever felt in ten years living here.

A monthly town meeting with 200 folks could function better in running he city ... so it seems.

And the new council members are silent yes people to the older members - except Burgess who wants more vice cops to prevent consenting adults from sex while people all over the city fear violence from lack of police resources???

What the hell ... to say nothing about wanting more debt, 200 million at the beginning of a possible long recession ... what the hell ...

By the way food banks are getting high demand and under stress to provide basics ... hunger in Seattle while Conky stresses about non existing site problems of council members ... what the hell

Here is one Eli - Shelter space for the homeless women - or lack there of - and no money for low budget activist type projects to offer space - women are given bus fare and told to ride the buss all night, yes, true it seems.

ask Share-Wheel, reported on KUOW this last week in interview

Shameful lack of priority and leadership - while the Council on Ending Homeless pontificates and spends money on studies and more and more high level talk

Where are the new beds for women, so sorely needed, really needed njow? Ask Share/Wheel.

And make sure to mention that while Gregoire is happy to attend the Dem convention, Dino is skipping the "GOP Party" convention.

Maybe you could discuss why the democrats refuse to refute the charge of "raises taxes, raises taxes, raises taxes" that the GOP uses every day election to scare people off voting for them.

Also, you could discuss if the new Obama strategy (a good one) of attack, attack, attack will stick around. Or if he'll go back to old Obama and condemn them for being "mean".

Also, why are they announcing the VP on a SATURDAY?!?!

What is the strategy of that? I don't understand why they would bury it like that over the weekend news...

Ok, nevermind...I see he is announcing today.

Blah, yesterday I read he was announcing on Saturday.

Whatever.

PC@8, I was once a Hillary supporter too. Time to stop your sobbing already.

As far as radio subjects: ask Schauffler about the "Extreme Pot Bust" as reported by colleague and S.F.C.H. Gary Chittim.

Dear Eli,

You turned in a solid performance on Weekday this morning but I am compelled to send you the following information on the correct pronunciation of the American word for the 36th state:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_S5zlk821mk

If you ever see someone yelling at TV or radio news coverage of the Silver State, it's not because of Yucca Mountain. It's because someone on TV or the radio said "Nev-odd-uh"

Thanks,
