2008 Obama Kids

onOn the streets of downtown Denver, a very smart and good rap group called Cool Kids is killing it. As if in honor of the new racial era in America, the black rappers are doing a tribute to the Beastie Boys.
Hiphop and Obama? What’s been interesting is too see these tough-looking black youth wearing baggy Obama T-shirts. The fact that they have Obama on them, and not Tupac or some admired underworld figure, softens their appearance to the point of being nonthreatening. I want to give this Obama effect a little more thought in the future.

I wonder if I will stop myself from calling 911 if I see a skate-boarder with an Obama t-shirt? Doubtful. But perhaps I will hesitate a moment or two before demanding that the police drive them off my street.
I was in West Oakland last week. That's the ghetto, for those who don't know the bay area... and there were Obama posters and even Obama grafitti all over the place.
Cool Kids are far from the "gangsta rap" kind of thing though. Very fun group, who avoid the cliche posturing and such.
Kinda like the beastie boys i guess. Who were always a bit political and also well-humoured.
Leave it to Liberals to breed crime and violence wherever they travel -- even a nice airy clean state like Denver.
Cool Kids are great. First time a Song of the Day made me buy the album the same day.
