Ding Ding Ding! We Have a Winner!

posted by on August 7 at 16:50 PM

It’s official: only three people have read The Stranger Election Control Board’s 2008 endorsements.

Halfway through the endorsements, buried in the text for the oh-so-exciting Attorney General race, we wrote:

McKenna’s Democratic opponent, Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg, is a funny, smart, savvy politician with a strong environmental record. As a county executive, he worked hard to clean up illegal dumps and junk cars, earning the endorsement of the Łberliberal Sierra Club despite his support for the controversial Cross-Base Highway across Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base. (To see if anyone actually read this far, The Stranger is proud to offer a $50 check and a minibottle of Jack Daniels to the first person that e-mails us at ireadatleastasfarastheladenburgendorsement@thestranger.com.)

So far, we’ve only received three emails. The first one came from 33-year-old William Lee, who read through the SECB’s endorsements on his lunch break, mostly because he didn’t have anything better to do. “I [was] out of new reading material,” Lee says. “Usually if Iím reading at lunch time itís novels.”

Did Lee gain anything by reading the SECB’s endorsements? “I already knew I wasnít going to be voting for Rossi,” he says. “Thatís a given.”

Now, now, just because we didn't email you doesn't mean we didn't read all the way through, (including the bizarre Kollin Min endorsement), it just means that by the time we got there, you had already posted the update that you'd received the response that won the prize . . .

Correction: only 3 people have e-mailed you. When I read it, you'd already posted that the prize had been claimed.

I got my ballot last week. You guys are fucking late and I've been waiting for you!

Getting started reading it now...

Jesus Christ, it's only Thursday. Your paper didn't even hit the stands at the BH Red Apple until today, and I'm not voting until tonight. Give it a little time, okay?

@2: Same. I was about to send compliments about how well the guide had been written and how it'd kept my interest, but after that point, I gave up.

Actually, we got about a hundred responses. I only forwarded three to Jonah. The email was bouncing to me, and I've been responding to people who didn't win. Which is... everyone else.

Damn it. I was going to send it in this morning when I got into my cube-thing, but then my computer decided to hate me so I forgot. Oh well.

Not fair... I read down to the freaking' superior court judges! And I left a comment about it which proves it.

I just couldn't care the frick less about the attorney general candidates.

I scanned it too fast and missed that part.

It's a shame A. Birch Steen isn't
here to lament that the Stranger has been reduced to paying its readers in $50 increments, not coincidentally the amount of cash a meth addict requires to stave off a withdrawal for another four or five days.

We need Rossi to win and shake up this state. Enough already.

Fucking Gregoire had her chance to make a difference. What has she done since getting into office? Seriously!

Can anyone name me 3 things that started out as her idea, and passed into law? Anything?

I really can't think of anything.

Sorry. It's Rossi's turn now.

I read it yesterday afternoon, all of it, but had things to do besides email... oh well.

Also, in things that happened yesterday: Jon and I saw Charles Mudede and Josh Feit at Sun Liquor. True story.

Three people have read your content?

Pretty soon you'll be able to charge your advertisers more!

A bottle of Jack to the guy who is voting for Rossi?

Do you really think that's wise? Stupid people aren't known for being any smarter when liquor is involved.

I read them all the way through, ignoring the solicitations to e-mail.

But I also thought this election endorsement piece lacked the insight, verve, and wit of ones in the past; by far not the best endorsement piece in terms of the writing. However, as usual I will vote 90% according to your recommendations...

I saw it, but misread it as CHICKS...since I'm neither interested in women, or cute, fluffy baby chickens, I decided to not respond...
