Books Did You Stiff This Man Out of a Tip?

onThe New York Post has unmasked “The Waiter,” the anonymous blogger behind Waiter Rant, wherein he wrote about waiting tables at a fancy restaurant. His book, also called Waiter Rant, is out today, and he’s guest-blogging over at Powell’s.
His name is Steve Dublanica, and he looks about what you’d figure, although I was half-expecting a tall, thin man with a ponytail and goatee. Dublanica thinks that he’s going to work as a professional writer from now on. I sincerely wish him luck, although I tend to think that he might be doomed. Publishing usually only wants one-trick ponies, and his metaphorical pony was his hilarious blog. Now the jig is up, and I bet publishers will only want two books from him from now on: nonfiction books about the service side of the food industry or novels about hilarious, catty waiters.

Yeah. I wish him well, but I think he'll be waiting tables again in a year.
I really like his blog and his writing style. I also hope he does well after this book, but I don't think he'll be waiting tables anymore, especially in New York.
I don't know, Paul - I'd usually agree with you, but after reading his blog for so long I think my favorite stuff of his has always been his psychological analysis of his customers, usually spot-on, funny, and sad. He went to seminary & did some sort of mental health work, so I'm pretty sure he's got a wider ranger of experiences to draw on than just reciting specials.
I'm sure we'll still be talking about him this time next year, along with the Stuff White People Like and Hot Chicks With Douchebags bloggers!
This whole "You've read the blog... NOW READ THE BOOK!" trend had got to stop.
Shut the fuck up, Elliot! I'm working on MY book, tentatively entitled "I Commented On Slog, and This Is My Story", and you're fucking up my chances with your cynicism!
Man,. the haters on this blog! When did you guys write anything a publisher wanted to buy?
Me thinks you'll b whining on this blog a year from now while 'The waiter' is sunning himself on s Tahitian beach.
