That steady stream of squad cars was related to a West Seattle bank robbery, which happened in the 2300 block of California Ave. earlier this morning.
Minutes ago, police spotted the robbery suspects near 1st and Spring and, according to SPD Spokeswoman Renee Witt, are now taking them in to custody.
Nothing to see here.
UPDATE: Apparently, the police chase wasn’t as wrapped up as SPD implied.
It appears one alleged bank robber—wearing a dress, wig and surgical mask—ended up in a standoff with police on 1st and Spring.
According to a witness at the scene, shots were fired and police now have the suspect on the ground.
The chase apparently began on Broadway.

A friend of mine just texted me that there are a huge amount of cop cars at the SafeCo building. Something about an armed robbery suspect and that she is hearing gun shots.
SWAT units really lit the SUV up with AR-15's......arrest is maybe a early misnomer for dead. F'd up my coffee break to.

I'm looking out of the SW corner of 3rd & Spring and have a view down Spring between 1st & 2nd.
The bad guy was driving a cherokee and was warned to get out. He was shot through the driver's side window.
When they pulled him out, they did not put him in a body bag, but in a neck brace. The ambulance hasn't left 2nd & Spring yet though.

So that's what's going on Downtown. Everyone here thought it was a national politician getting a blockade to his destination.
Well then, all I can say to this is that running for the water... Downtown, no less... is probably the worst direction to go when running from the cops.
@12 -- Weekend at Bernies-style neck braces imply that the dead-but-hilariously-passed-off-as-alive robber may have been near the waterfront attempting a getaway via a highly-choreographed water skiing sequence.
a dress, wig, and surgical mask wearing bank robber being chased by the cops? sounds like a benny hill sketch or something. were there any guys in gorilla suits running around?
