Transsexual Prostitute Beaten by Police Officer in Memphis

posted by on June 18 at 10:00 AM

The officer hit Johnson several times with the handcuffs wrapped around his knuckles. In the video, you can see the flash of the metal.

To destroy a Shakespeare quote "The policeman who beats the whore has a hot need to use her for the very reason he is beating her".

I know I destroyed the quote but it makes the point.

She must have stepped on his blue suede shoes.

Man, Memphis has become the crime hell hole in the US.

It never fails, that the cities with the dirtiest and most corrupt police forces have the worst crime rates.

This should be running in a continuous loop on CNN and both those cops should do federal time.

But you know, just as an aside: somehow I don't think the black community will take this as personally as they did the Rodney King video, even though this footage shows a much more egregiously criminal assault. Just a guess, but if those cops get off I don't see Memphis, LA or Detroit burning to the ground anytime soon. If anyone speaks up for this woman it'll be the queer community.

Though I thought the news reporters and the people they interviewed sounded legitimately outraged, and not just like they were trying really hard not to laugh.

Jesus. That was even worse than I imagined it would be. What the fuck is the deal with the police anymore? If they're not killing people with tasers, they're doing shit like this. Has it always been this bad? It seems like it's getting much worse. That poor tranny. I wonder if she needs help with medical bills or anything. Yikes.

Judah (#6),
You might be right, but let's give the black community a bit of credit than that. Groups like the NAACP and the Southern Poverty Law Center have been (at least in the past few years) unambiguous in their support for the rights of gays, lesbians, and transgendered people.

Nobody is a fan of police brutality.

And I would hardly view riots as a show of support for anything.

@6,

I was a little too young at the time to really remember much about the Rodney King riots, but I have seen or heard of plenty of other instances of police brutality against African Americans caught on tape since then. For whatever reason, those instances haven't resulted in rioting. Even the Bell shooting, the Diallo shooting, and the Louima case in New York didn't result in riots.

Once again, Chris Rock is spot on with "How Not to Get Your Ass Beat by the Police."

Rule 1: Obey the law.

@7:

It's systemic to police culture. I'm outraged but in no way surprised. Try reading "Policing Space" about the LAPD and how they attempt to control / restrict those they see as troublesome.

When I was young, I used to hate the police because of being fucked with for looking a bit different and getting high in Bellevue. Now that I'm older, I hate the police just as much, but for far broader reasons: they are, as currently organized, agents of oppression, no matter how 'nice' or 'respectful' any individual officer may be.

It seems as far as police are concerned the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing is the lawyer's problem, not theirs.

Their motto should be "Shoot/Beat first, let the courts sort'em out."
