Cops are right-wing jerks. Shock. King.
This guy sounds like a nutbar, but he certainly doesn't have the money and political power of the BIAW. I wish him and his bottled water luck when the "big one" hits.
The SPOG dissed my main man Kermit the SLOG Frog! Bullshit! Bullshit!
Now that makes me wanna fuckin' SHRED!!!
If "the big one" hits there is a huge possibility that the local water supply will be contaminated for a while so people do need to store water. If you choose to store it in a rain drum, or bigger containers than a water bottle, that's up to you. But, the city is going to need a potable water source for the rescue and recovery teams as well. I assume they planned on using bottled water. I have no idea if the mayor's plan changes this.
I didn't see any "global warming denial" in the quote. What I saw was a properly attributed quote from a (reasonably) reputable publication that seems to be at odds with the current thinking on global warming.
What I saw were some fairly well thought out arguments against the mayors tirade on bottled water.
Of course, it was well thought out - so that's probably why ECB didn't recognize it.
What will you drink when the predicted earthquake breaks the water mains, and levels the pumping stations? You do realize that sealed bottled water is close enough to sterile to be used for irrigating wounds? Not sure I'd want to try that with a cup of water from a broken pipe. (Works pretty good for flushing pepper spray out of your eyes too.)
Our tap water is fine, and I'm happy we have such good local water. But there are some good arguments for having the bottled stuff around as well.
Perhaps Smith is concerned that Mayor McCheese keeps trotting out "global solutions" to problems like bottled water, human trafficing, concealed weapons permits, and the Kyoto Accords, and yet he can't seem to come up with a plan for the Viaduct. Nor can he even keep up with the potholes.
All of those are real problems that need to be addressed, but perhaps at State, Federal or international level, rather than by His Humoungousness.
Some of us are starting to think that every time people start looking too closely at his administration, he runs up another cause du jour to distract attention from his failure to address his core responsibilities.
Cops and mayors and the other city employees all are pigs, and they all eat out of the same trough. This is sorority girls acting catty, nothing more.
detective ron smith is a class a idiot.
... uh, so is greg nickels.
One thing that always entertains me about ECB is that she assumes everyone else is just as crazy and out-of-touch as she is, doesn't feel it necessary to defend her positions, and instead goes out of her way to pretend that the "thesis" of her post is a foregone conclusion.
see! see! w7ngman gets it! she's just like chaz!
Erica is no Josh Feit.
So why was Josh Feit fired?
"when the predicted earthquake breaks the water mains, and levels the pumping stations?"
well, all of seattle is at a lower level than the cedar river watershed, so although you may not be able to water you lawn, you shithead, you won't die from thirst. thank you, nature.
Is he seriously trying to say that there won't be any sources of water in the entire city just because the City of Seattle won't have bottled water for its employees? Talk about a stupid fucking argument.
Yes, store some water in case of emergencies. Get it from your tap now and put it in bottles or barrels or jugs or whatever. Don't go buy a new 20oz plastic bottle every day. What's so hard about this to understand?
You know all those arguments against the bag tax because it's really plastic bottles and caps that are the big pollution problem? Well here's a start at addressing that, too.
Where can I get some cop killer bullets?
@14: Check to see if any of the thugs and meth heads you hang out with have any.
Just a note, but the "A" in BIAW stands for Association, not Alliance.
Most cops aren't used yet to the idea their newsletter is public. You all know someone who says similar things around your offices.
@6 -- You're either a genius or an idiot. You're more right than you have a right to be.
Oh the irony of ECB accusing someone else of denial, mockery, off-point jokes and irrelevant arguments.
#13 nailed it.
Personally, I plan on drinking all the French champaign and single-malts I'm going to "requisition" from the liquor store up the street.
I'll be saving the water (30 gallon rain barrel, 5 gallon RV tank & several stored gallons) for the cats, for cooking, and for bathing.
In the event of a disaster, don't drink the water - drink beer.
