Slog - Comments on SPOG Detective Challenges BIAW Rep for Mayor of Crazytown

So you thought the Building Industry Alliance of Washington--whose representatives have compared environmentalists to Hitler, attributed global-warming and growth-management laws to "radical environmentalists"; and referred to Gov. Chrstine Gregoire as a "heartless, power-hungry she-wolf who would eat her own young to get ahead"--was the wackiest right-wing game in town? Well, get ready: The Seattle Police Officers Guild is giving the BIAW a run for its money. Introducing the editor of SPOG's newsletter, Detective Ron Smith: Each time I hear the Mayor come up with a new "green idea to save the planet I laugh it off as part of the...

If "the big one" hits there is a huge possibility that the local water supply will be contaminated for a while so people do need to store water. If you choose to store it in a rain drum, or bigger containers than a water bottle, that's up to you. But, the city is going to need a potable water source for the rescue and recovery teams as well. I assume they planned on using bottled water. I have no idea if the mayor's plan changes this.

Comment by Old Enough to Remember Kermit

I didn't see any "global warming denial" in the quote. What I saw was a properly attributed quote from a (reasonably) reputable publication that seems to be at odds with the current thinking on global warming.

What I saw were some fairly well thought out arguments against the mayors tirade on bottled water.

Of course, it was well thought out - so that's probably why ECB didn't recognize it.

What will you drink when the predicted earthquake breaks the water mains, and levels the pumping stations? You do realize that sealed bottled water is close enough to sterile to be used for irrigating wounds? Not sure I'd want to try that with a cup of water from a broken pipe. (Works pretty good for flushing pepper spray out of your eyes too.)

Our tap water is fine, and I'm happy we have such good local water. But there are some good arguments for having the bottled stuff around as well.

Perhaps Smith is concerned that Mayor McCheese keeps trotting out "global solutions" to problems like bottled water, human trafficing, concealed weapons permits, and the Kyoto Accords, and yet he can't seem to come up with a plan for the Viaduct. Nor can he even keep up with the potholes.

All of those are real problems that need to be addressed, but perhaps at State, Federal or international level, rather than by His Humoungousness.

Some of us are starting to think that every time people start looking too closely at his administration, he runs up another cause du jour to distract attention from his failure to address his core responsibilities.

Is he seriously trying to say that there won't be any sources of water in the entire city just because the City of Seattle won't have bottled water for its employees? Talk about a stupid fucking argument.

Yes, store some water in case of emergencies. Get it from your tap now and put it in bottles or barrels or jugs or whatever. Don't go buy a new 20oz plastic bottle every day. What's so hard about this to understand?

You know all those arguments against the bag tax because it's really plastic bottles and caps that are the big pollution problem? Well here's a start at addressing that, too.
