In other news, ignored as usual here:

1. Obama turns about on pledge to accept public financing. citing his legions of small donors, blah blah blah.

Come on guys, it is news you new whether you like what he's doing or not.

Me: yessiree I like it it's a smart move -- break your word when it suits you.

Very chicago-ish and very fighting spirit. Unlike those dweeds Dukakis, Kerry etc.

What a canny pol Obama is.

Props.

2. Obama to campaign with Clinton in about a week.

Secret Service now reviewing all Slog commenters to see which ones likely to get close to stage ready to attack HRC under cover of "volunteering" for Obama.

I told them which ones are the most likely.....

Kidding!

Unity y'all. Enjoy the cupcakes.

It will be a great day when the Navy has all the battleships it needs and a Democratic candidate has to hold a bake sale to raise campaign funds.

D. Brooks, NYT on the turn about on public financing:

"If we’re going to have a president who is going to go toe to toe with the likes of Vladimir Putin, maybe it is better that he should have a ruthlessly opportunist Fast Eddie Obama lurking inside.

All I know for sure is that this guy is no liberal goo-goo. . . .he's the most effectively political creature we’ve seen in decades. Even Bill Clinton wasn’t smart enough to succeed in politics by pretending to renounce politics."

Food for thought while enjoying those sweet, apolitical cupcakes.

All I know is most people are going to the Fremont Fair this weekend and the beer garden the Fremont Arts Council has at Gas Works Park.

And tonight's a great Obama fundraiser for National Delegates (or the DNC or the campaign) if you're looking for something fun ... it's from 6-9 pm at Twist, 2313 First Avenue, and here's a map to help you get there.

@PC: covered in Morning News today and yesterday. And wow, you and David Brooks are on the same page. You must be very proud. And seriously: "Fast Eddie Obama"? He couldn't do any better than that?

Hm, circular logo with san-serif type arcing around the perimiter; good thing there aren't any stars there or else the Obama people would be getting a nasty "cease-and-desist" letter from Howard Schultz' lawyers.

It is interesting that one of the Obama campaign's rationales for rejecting public financing is that they need to raise tons of money to counteract the right-wing PACs and the RNC, and that they are encouraging people to donate directly to the campaign instead of left-wing PACs.

It's kind of brilliant, really; Obama's playing into the perception that our campaign finance system is broken, and the only way to break free is for him to forgo public financing's restrictions and rely on donations from "ordinary people like you." Break down the system to build it back up again later? Or just abandon it?

I will so buy anything Obama/Oprah tells me to buy.

But let's face it, I have no problem with Obama doing anything to get elected, even calling Cindy McCain a c*nt (which she must like, John calls her that). We have to cross this bridge to move beyond the GOP and Bush and hell, if Obama needs to hold hands with Satan himself to do it: then let him do it and for the time being trust his judgement. Yes, trust his judgement. Obama is the closest thing we will see for a liberal politician for quite awhile and I say back him 100%. After he wins and if he screws up, THEN we impeach the SOB.

Taking the "high road" LOST us the Whtie House in 2000 and 2004. I want Obama to fucking fight to the death; and if that means buying some really good brownies *hint hint* I will buy and eat dozens of them!

That's change you can believe in!!

In other news today, people who hate Obama are upset because he's going to raise even more and crush McSame like a little bug.

While we Obama folk have fun and eat baked goods.

Where do we find out which bake sales will have special brownies?

Posted by Greg | June 20, 2008 2:40 PM

I'm guessing the ones in herb-friendly neighborhoods. Like Fremont, Capitol Hill, Greenlake.
