I'm learning lots of new languages in this campaign. First Spanish (si se puede), now Latin (vero possumus). It's a refreshing change from the "educated people shouldn't be running the country" BS of the last election.
Does "Vero Possumus" mean "Truth is an Opossum"?
@2, it actually means "yes we can," but I like your translation better.
They couldn't have used that anyway without asking Starbucks.
Honestly, I like it better. But I agree that he should win first.
people sure know how to overreact
You can't compare Obama to Gore & Kerry. 538 has done a good job of debunking that myth. I'm not saying it won't get closer as we reach election day but neither of those elections featured big leads in so many polls this late into the cycle - plus neither had the kind of cash advantages that Obama does.
Are we really still talking about jinxes? In 2008? Really?
Yes, Dan, we saw it. Over and over. Thanks for repeating it. Yet again.
I choose to believe this means "virile possum"
Of course it means "I see possums" which for an Eagle is a very good thing, though not as good as seeing baby goats.
In it's left talon it's carrying bud and in it's right roasted Marlin on a stick. It's holding a used condom between in it's wings.
All in all, a good thing he's nixed it.
Wow, that's quite a selective reading of the polls. Last Friday, I came across a Newsweek poll that said Obama had a 14 point lead. That one and the one you site are the only ones with any significant deviation from what the pollsters, pundits and mainstream media say is an extremely close race. Most polls I've read have Obama (including one today) up 4-7 points with a margin of error of 3-4 points. I've read several times that Obama received no significant bounce after Clinton's withdrawal.
Check out 538 if you want an analysis of polls. The Newsweek one with him 15 points up seems high and so was the other one today that had him 12 points up.
The bigger picture here is that there have been NO national polls with McCain up for weeks. 538 estimates that Obama is up about 5-6 points nationally with seems quite reasonable.
We'll re-defeat NO-Bama in November!!!
Obama's the type of guy who would cry during rape.
I actually think this seal was a good idea. Keep approximating the image of President so that sense of Obama as President gets solidified in the peoples' minds. If there's already a subconscious feeling that he IS President already, people are far more likely to be comfortable voting for him. It's quite brilliant framing, actually.
McCain's caucus, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, uses the same logo:
I bet Drudge or Sullivan or whoever forgot to mention that in their "coverage"...
I like it because it looks like the American Eagle is hugging a condom.
Now THAT is the kind of message I can endorse.
It is an over-blown non-issue. People didn't like him not wearing a flag pin and now they don't like him displaying an alternative symbol of our country. BFD.
@4 I also noticed the concentric circles with two stars...very bad omen indeed.
