Charles, could you provide links with the photos that you post? Seems like this would be polite to the photographers, and would let curious people like me get more info about where they're taken, etc.
I know you're trying to be all arty and mysterious, but even angel toes must occasionally tap the dirt.
Looks like an Eastern Bloc Angel Moroni. Stuff that in your magic underwear.
this post is essentially elitist - foreign language, possibly a philosophical literary quote, imagery that comments on teh text & vice-versa. You Africans think you're better than the hard working white folk of West Virginny. they are offended by your Zimbabwean elitism & intellectualism.
I love this! Where is it?
So there's no possible correlation between the name of the image (Motherland-Kiev.jpg) and Charles Mudede's apparently favorite Natalie Merchant album?
kiev.
a little demystification:
the statue is called "Motherland" (as suggested by the image name), and is located at the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, in Kiev, Ukraine. The same image appears on the Wikipedia entry for the museum.
nuage means cloud. In French. Yes, this is elitist. Baudelaire?
merchant? yes.
baudelaire? yes.
moore? yes.
Skvorecky, yes.
Classic Mudede.
I hope you're working on an overpriced coffee table book of your Slog highlights, Chuck.
I knew you were a Thurston Moore fan, Charles! Awesome!
Apparently, this statue faces Russia as a gentle reminder that they would prefer not to be invaded again, thank you very much. I like it. Has anyone seen the Wallace Monument in Stirling, Scotland? Same idea, but not quite so gladiatorial.
