I Saw U on the Route 15 With a Copy of Chocolate Flava

The Library’s blog has a list of books that have been recently spotted on local bus routes. I’ve been thinking for a while now that someone should start a communal Google Map for routes, times, and books spotted.

I think this is a great idea. Besides reading on the bus, my favorite bus pastime is seeing what everyone else is reading. There’s this one lady I see occasionally who, I swear, has been reading the same book, a Christian book about solving the mystery of God, for years.

It’s a fairly good mix of books that the U Book Store has spotted: Some Jane Austen, the good (if a little slow) Dominique Fabre novel that came out from Archipeligo Books a couple months ago, and, bless whoever this was, a collection of erotica edited by the mononomenclatured erotica author Zane. But, to the person who’s reading A Brief History of Time: Really. Everyone else stopped pretending they read that book like twelve years ago. You can give up on trying to impress people now.

(UPDATED: Like a bonehead, I confused the Library’s blog for the University Book Store’s blog. The list is at the Library’s blog. I had both blogs open at the same time. Sorry to both fine literary institutions.)

I saw a girl get off the 11 reading a book called How to Make Someone Love You Forever. She was so into it, she almost walked into me.

That's actually the Seattle Public Library's blog. They have similar names.

Umm, I think that Missing Person has been found. (You do not allow comments on the posting) You might try calling his sister. I reported it like 5 minutes after she posted it on her LiveJournal page that he just showed up and then she just pulled the whole thing off like it never happened.

Speaking of missing persons (@3)

Did Nicholas Francisco ever turn up?

I did try calling Scott's sister. Haven't heard back. Can you send me the link to her LJ? Seems set to 'friends only.'

It would be great if Metro and Community Transit would post there routes on Google or Yahoo Maps. The book idea is good too.

Alas, reading on the bus makes me queasy, so instead I'll post here what I would be reading right now if I could read on the bus without vomiting:

"Sex and Bacon, Why I Love Things That are Very, Very Bad for Me." by Sarah Katherine Lewis.

p.s. Who am I kidding, I don't ride the bus anyway...

There was a blog that received some local publicity a year or two back. It's written by a woman who composes vignettes about people based on the books she sees them reading on the bus, the streetcar, subway, etc.

Yep, not us, but the good people at the Seattle Public Library.

It is a pretty good idea, though.

If you'd like to see Rick Moody hit Dale Peck in the face with a pie, our blog has that. Thanks to Paper Cuts.

@4 - I don't think so. I really don't know anything about the people involved other than what I heard on the news, but for some reason he was the first thing that sprang to mind when I read this I, Anonymous a few weeks ago...

Paul, you are without a doubt my favorite Slogger. Every post makes you more intriguing and me fonder of you. Please start a blog about books read in public places, buses, the books you (and others) take to lunch, or those read in movie theatres before the lights go out (my favorite public reading room).

You could possibly be talking about me.

Give me a call sometime.

Speaking of the Missing Person post, somebody should close that bold tag.

Now, my question about the posting "Missing from Pike/Pine Saturday Night" is whether he went missing after going to Cinco de Toro at Eagle or Gayo de Mayo at Baltic Room which are both near where he "disappeared." Personally I try not touch that nectar that comes from cacti. I heard via MySpace that he is "recovering" so something interesting (or terrible) must have happened. How is he going to feel about hearing "hey arn't you that missing person" when he goes out?
