Iron Man was boring and done. It's disgustingly overrated.
Aw, just 'cause EVERYBODY ELSE likes it, you gotta go and be Mr. Po(e)uty about it.
And I STILL say "Sunshine" sucks shiny metal ASS!
Speed Racer has gotten terrible reviews, is probably dreadful, and goes against everything I normally look for in a movie...but for some reason it's the only movie I want to see this summer except maybe the new Batman.
I liked Iron Man. For a comic book movie, for a superhero movie, it could have been much worse.
There wasn't an original moment in Iron Man. There were hundreds of predictable moments, though.
Loved that "humanitarian" line by Howard. Good stuff.
My son is taking me to see Speed Racer for Mother's Day. I don't care how execrable it is, it's the thought that counts.
monkeys in overalls kinda freak me out though.
I liked Iron Man. It was fun.
Is American meant to be a pejorative??
You're never going to get a movie better than workmanlike from the super hero genre. The whole concept is immune to originality. The real problem with Iron Man was the weak action sequences.
Yes, if only Iron Man had been made by Wes Anderson, and starred Crispin Glover as Tony Stark, and instead of building armor to fight evil, he makes small art-house movies on an 8mm camera that belonged to his estranged father, played in flashbacks by Bill Murray. Oh, and the whole film was shot according the rules of Dogma 95.
On the other hand, as a movie clearly advertised as escapist superhero action fluff, it was really good.

That would have been awesome.
I liked the end of the credits in Iron Man.
Looking forward to Speed Racer in IMAX. Got into an argument with some teens, one of whose dad didn't like it, but then he was a fan of the original TV show, and to me that's most of why he probably didn't like it ... he's not that age anymore.
Go to it expecting a show but not thinking about the past and you'll probably have a great time.
That said, my one major objection to Iron Man: the music was way too soft.
TURN IT UP!
Wachowski brothers = shitty movie. And that includes the first Matrix movie.
Iron Man was a lot of fun, though it is interesting that the next several announced Marvel Comics movies are taking superheroes into such a militaristic mode (with the exception of Thor, unless they make the "Ultimate" version of Thor, as a New Agey, antiwar activist who nontheless befriends the likes of Captain America and Iron Man to try to do good).
I'd pay money not to have to sit through Speed Racer, and I'm already dreading all the TV ads later this year that will be using those flashy, hypercolorful seizure effects, the way even candy ads on Nickolodeon use "bullet time" FX from The Matrix.
It's funny that the Wachowski Siblings have sort of wiped "V for Vendetta" off their resume in all the media hype for Speed Racer...
why aren't you talking about the checkerboard bikini babe?
fags.
@15: Because she's orange like an oompa-loompa.
@15 - because she gets in the way of the monkey.
Jeff Bridges fucking *stole* Iron Man. That guy's the best actor in Hollywood.
I would have said Robert Downey Jr. with his big anime eyes ...
Nothing with Robert Downey Jr. could every be a waste of my time. Not even Zodiac or Hearts and Souls.
Well, I doubt anyone is still reading this post, but I just got back from seeing Speed Racer and after all the negative reviews I set my expectation bar to zero. Doing that made the movie an enjoyable bit of fluff. The bright colors were nifty and the video game aspect didn't bother me, it just made my fingers itch to play a racing video game.
The dialog was execrable, though and mostly just made me wish they'd get back to the bright colors and the zoom zoom races.
