From Growing Up Straight: What Every Thoughful Parent Should Know About Homosexuality, by Peter and Barbara Wyden. Copyright 1968.

RAISING THE SEXUALLY SECURE CHILD

It has been mentioned earlier that many homosexuals come out of a sexually repressive home atmosphere, and others come from homes where they were sexually overstimulated. What is the sensible middle course?

The exerts are unanimous in suggesting that parents should do their best to answer questions about sex without appearing embarrassed…. Most experts believe it is not desirable to volunteer information on homosexuality to children but to alert to opportunities to explain the subject briefly and naturally.

Dr. Gebhard’s son started tossing around the word “fag” when he was about eight years old. Dr. Gebhard asked, “Hey, do you know what that word means?” Then he explained homosexuals this way: “Some boys like to have sex with other boys. It isn’t a good idea. People in general don’t like it and you can get in trouble about it.

Take off the BR tag at the end, and all is good.

Is Randi going to be the MC for Hempfest ever again?

BTW, Randi is back on the radio on Monday: NovaM picked her up and she will be on again on AM 1090 in Seattle.

We are down, we are crazy fools
Everyday at school
Teachers here, teachers there
Books and books, they are everywhere

Come on boys, we need to dance
We have got a good chance
Lay your problems on the floor
Clap your hands and sing to me once more

Everybody, let's go to the gig
We can dance there, dance and eat an ice-cream
Everybody dancing all night long
Try to do it, sing a happy song

Music sound, dancing in the night
We can get so high
For no reason no don't stop
Now's the time to go to the top

It's a sweet simple happy song
We'll sing all night long
Lay your problems on the floor
Clap your hands and sing once more

I never thought Rhodes had anything more than the brains of a gnat, but calling HRC a whore is really a shit-stupid reason for a failing radio network to fire her. People seemed to like her, gnat-brains and whore-baiting and all.

Frankly I wish they would dump Franken. He's much better at ironically snarky right-bashing books than he is on either TV or radio. Go back to the keyboard, please, Al.

Anyway, if liberal talk radio is to succeed, it can't do it by being lily-livered.

K - Franken is running for Senate and quit the radio show over a year ago.

K who do you support for pres? With your knowledge about events I'm guessing Hillary.

K: do you even know what you are talking about? You should dig around as to all the stuff that lead to Randi Rhodes leaving Air America and understand that her rant against Hillary was TWO WEEKS before the suspension.

Her mouth is not what got her fired. I suggest you follow the money and look at why others left Air America Radio.

People in general don’t like it and you can get in trouble about it (from the how-not-to-have-a-gay-kid thing)

They're right about people not liking it, but thanks to Lawrence v Texas, you can't get in trouble any more!

I didn't realize this had been decided...but here it is in the ST trolley article:
"Construction to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct is scheduled to begin in 2012"

Regarding the Sonics story: Given the apparent evidence of bad faith. Would it be possible for the City of Seattle or whoever is paying the current debt on the Key Arena to place a lean on the Sonics?

From the sound of other stories, I get the impression that Oklahoma City is writing a blank check for the Sonics' new arena. Given the circumstances, Seattle should try to get a piece of that action. Let Oklahoma pay for the Key.

Actually, you missed the cool part of the Russian spaceship docking at the space station story -- it was bringing South Korea's first astronaut into orbit, So-Yeon Yi, and she is the youngest woman in space to date as well.
