Good for Allen. I suppose he can expect to wake up next to Greg Oden's severed head tomorrow, courtesy of David Stern.
And the lawsuits are filed in - ...3...2...1...
aww, fuck... could somebody please give me directions to the aurora bridge?
Obligitory hipster "Who cares? Don't let the door hit you on the way out." comment in ...3...2...1...
Not a surprise. Now the City and Howard Schultz file their lawsuits.
Who cares? Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I actually think Paul Allen abstained from voting. He was not there for the meetings, so only Mark Cuban actually voted against the move.
Golly, Andy, I thought the NBA bigwigs would deal fairly and honestly with us. Gee whilikers I thought they would be ashonest as JP Patches. Good golly Molly, those East Coast/Midwest fellas are sure sharp. You think mebbe they were funnin' us all along?
[insert whistled Mayberry tune here, walk barefoot to fishin' hole]
anyone who thought that the owners wouldn't approve the move are idiots. owners look after their own so that, in the future, if they want to move, no one will stand in their way.
the question of whether or not the Sonics leave is up to the lawsuit to keep them to the lease, and it always has been.
if Clay is stuck in Seattle for two excurtiating years of the "hate f&*k Clay Bennett party" with multiple local ownership groups out there and a possible stadium financing situation, he will sell the team and the NBA will offer him the next franchise for sale.
Behring moved the Hawks to CA. the Mariners were as good as gone. just wait for the trial and then we'll actually see what's going to happen after that.
read the news for once. allen sent a representative to vote no. he wasn't there in person, but the blazer's voted no as an organization.
So my buddy was sitting in a meeting while a bunch of jerkoffs were droning on about some local professional and/or college sports team. And his eyes are glazing over. And they say "hey, you're not really into sports, are you?" And he leans forward and slowly says:
"I think it's like pornography. It's surrogate achievement."
Hit who? Don't let the caring out you in the doorway. Also my band is playing at the fun house yeah and what's up with this weather wow right I love commenting!
Paul Allen voted against it.
"I think it's like pornography. It's surrogate achievement."
Porno and Sports are awesome, your friend sounds like a total douchebag that deserves an office swirly.
Who cares? Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Take the Seahawks and Mariners with you, eh? (But, please pay many millions first so I'm less responsible for these stupid stadiums)
Bud@14:
Nothin' wrong with porn. But in the end you're still some dude sitting in a dark room with your dick in your hand.
If you have time to *watch* sports, you have time to *play* sports.
@15, yes, and please take the thousands of local families who enjoy Mariners and Seahawks games. Please take them and flush their favorite activities down the toilet.
@16, sure, but if you don't watch sports, how will you know what the rules are?
And do you know how many people it takes to field an entire football team? It's a lot of work just to get the damn thing set up. (Of course, you don't know, because you sound like a douche that hates sports. Unless they're European sports.)
Lastly, drinking is much easier to do while watching sports than while playing them.
Yeah, if you have time to watch a film, you can make a film. Hopefully, a porn movie.
Just saw ESPN call the NBA out: "So the people of Seattle approve a new football stadium and a new baseball stadium, then turn down a new NBA arena? The NFL has a stadium fund for this sort of situation--the NBA should have stepped in similarly and they didn't."
paul allen can now bring the blazers to seattle.
Joykiller@17:
I don't hate sports, you fucking moron. I hate WATCHING sports. And the fact that you conflate the two tells me everything I need to know about you.
@7: What part of this (from the linked story) is confusing:
"The vote was 28-2. The two teams that voted against it were the Dallas Mavericks, owned by Mark Cuban, and Portland Trail Blazers, owned by Microsoft co-founder and Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen."
Also, the only reason Mark Cuban voted against it is because a team in OKC interferes with the market share for his Dallas Mavericks, since Oklahoma is part of their market area. He's acting like this is a noble act of support, but it's not.
@21, good for you. Good luck trying to shave those extra pounds off your fat ass. That's one more seat for me and my friends at an M's game while you're playing baseball at a park by yourself.
Seriously, though -- you can't play sports without being a fan. And you're not really a fan unless you watch the game, at least occasionally.
