oh, that mom quotation is adorable!

“She is a very bright girl who can handle someone like the governor,” Ms. Capalbo said in a telephone interview Wednesday. “But she also is a 22-year-old not a 32-year-old or a 42-year-old and she obviously got involved in something much larger than her.”

Oh, dear. Well, maybe she'll get a reality show out of it in the end, or something, anyway.

Nope, she's only 1k. Right in the middle of the pay scale of Emperor's...see here...http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/13/nyregion/12cnd-kristen.html?_r=3&oref=slogin&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

since when is lengthy quotation from someone's unconfirmed myspace page journalism worthy of the new york times?

I'm not getting the 4K price. Maybe she bleaches her asshole?

Not that she's bad-looking or anything, but I must say that I expected more given the price tag.

Not a fan of credentialism but at that price I'd expect some initials after her name.

Wanna See a 4K Hooker?

Yes.

On an unrelated note, can I borrow $4k?

@2: For no reason I can see, I read that "she's obviously got something much larger in her."

She's a whore. A prostitute. With no other discernible skill than to sell her twat.

Nobody go feeling sorry for her. She broke the law (however wrong that law may be), and was exposed to the world for what a slut she is.

Maybe this could happen to each "sex worker"

She'll be in playboy by the end of the year.

What % does she get out of it?

She looks pretty cute, and "classy", but no sex is worth $4k, frankly, unless you're rich. And that's just it. You can sell the same product for $5 and $100, and poor people will buy the $5 and wealthy people will buy the $100. I believe people tend to think in terms of percentages of their income/wealth more than they do absolute price, at least subconciously. That, and raising the price of something often produces the unintuitive result of more sales because of a false perception that your product is of a higher quality.

@15-- if she had nothing but her "twat", she would have rented for $50 an hour. She clearly had skills to convince people that she was worth $1000 an hour.

What's the most you've ever convinced your company you were worth? By that measure, I'm betting she has sharper skills than you do.

I met a woman at Columbia who got lured into high-stakes prostitution in Manhattan during her frosh year. Very bright woman. She's now a librarian.

@22

OK, until her body fails and nobody wants her in 5, 10, 15 years....or she gets addicted to coke/heroine/etc in that time.

Go on telling yourself that she's better than me. But you're wrong.

I'd rather make $1 an hour than $4,000 to be able to gladly look at myself in the mirror every morning

It's obvious from the story that however much she makes an hour, she's still broke as hell, with no prospects beyond the inevitable novelty record. People who think $1,000 is a lot of money are sad. People who think that all they have to offer is their pussy are sad.

@23 hey I think you just insulted librarians.

@24 wow. you do know that you are frequenting a prostitution-friendly rag, right?

@25 fnarf. i am not selling my body for anything and i think that 1000k is a lot of money. i and millions of other people in the world. are you rich?

i wonder if i have more in common with sex workers than fnarfs.

Posted by onion | March 12, 2008 7:40 PM

1000k? Where did you see 1000k? That's a million dollars.

I'm not rich, but I work. I don't make $1000 an hour, but neither does this woman, really; she's not working full-time at it. What do you think she's really earning per year? It's not enough; she's broke. And a thousand bucks won't even pay your rent for a month; that's nothing. Think about your future. A thousand bucks isn't a future.

to be fair, fnarf, she doesn't necessarily think that "all she has to offer the world is her pussy"--she just knows it's the thing she can use to get the most money for her time spent, and she's right. she obviously has musical pretensions, etc., and doesn't even mention the ho' thing in her page...i'm thinking she doesn't think of herself that way at all. and if, like most prostitutes at this level, she hadn't gotten caught, she could have had any variety of futures. so what's with the victorian melodrama? it seems so unlike you.

Yeah, if you ask her what she does, she would say musician. Just like every other server/bartender/laborer/whatever who is a musician or actor but doesn't make enough to live on doing just that.

Considering the alternative for someone with artistic pursuits, but no other marketable skills, $1000/hour is pretty good. And, no, she's not working full-time, but if she had some part-time McJob making $10/hour, well, that's 100 hours of working for the same pay. If she works ONE hour per week, she probably pays her rent and eats. Not bad.

Of course, the Emperor service probably takes half of that, so maybe she has to work two hours per week. Then again, she wasn't paying taxes on any of that ...

Oh, give me a break with the "music career" -- yeah, right. That's what I meant by "another hip hop victim". Girls with this sensibility are a dime a dozen. Obviously she's able to make better than that in sex work, but I see NOTHING on that Myspace page that says "I have a clue about what I'm doing". She's blowing through whatever dough she's making, and she obviously thinks that a wad of bills is the same thing as a career. It's not.

Posted by Fnarf | March 12, 2008 10:05 PM

Let me put it another way to see if I can explain it. I have absolutely no objection to a career as a high-class hooker, if you go about it in a sensible way. It's actually the "music career" I find more objectionable -- it's more whorish, for one thing, and the odds are much worse. That's what I'm seeing on her Myspace -- a whole bunch of fail, not just as a pop star but as a future.

But let's say the escort agency comes after. How's she going to make that work? You think she's taking care of herself? You think she's paying for health insurance? Saving for retirement? These things are MUCH MORE important for an escort, whose career is sporadic and short. Is she making more than McDonalds? Yeah, OK; is that as high as she should be reaching? In New York? I don't see it; I see someone who, even if she hadn't gotten busted here, was going to be in trouble pretty soon anyways.

Those high-class call girls have high standards; expensive clothes, haircuts, gyms. Two $500 hours a week, in New York? I don't think so. I don't see that here; I see another dumb girl who grew up dreaming of dudes in Escalades waving wads of bills at her, partying, dancing, singing her way through life. That's the tragedy. Being a prostitute is nothing to be ashamed of; NEEDING to be a prostitute kind of is, in the long run. Where was she planning to be when she's, say, 45? Not in Client #9's bed, I don't think.

Um, this seems obvious to me, but the woman was not making $1000 an hour. Her pimps were billing $1000 an hour.

i, too, think that this is kind of sad.

it is sad anytime someone young gets caught up in something because they weren't taught better, or because they want to take the easy way.

i see this with kids dreaming of playing professional sports, with musicians around town, with friends who started selling drugs. you hope they make it, or at least make it through (or at the very least don't get caught!).

i don't know the details of this story, but as others have pointed out, she doesn't seem to have a very good plan. and yet other young girls are going to see $4000 hooker and a singer and get the same idea "kristen" got not too long ago.

this doesn't look like a case of feminine empowerment (unless this business was female owned and operated). this just looks like another way rich men can take advantage of poor, young women who don't seem to know what they are doing. at least she is getting more than average.

Posted by infrequent | March 13, 2008 9:24 AM

follow-up: the business was owned by a man.

i still don't think prostitution should be illegal. looking at the bills, certainly the governor was taken advantage of as well and didn't -- in the end -- know what he was doing either. finally, women and men who are 22 years old are mature enough to make these kinds of decisions, and certainly don't need any extra protections from the law. that does not change the fact that it saddens me when they make poor decisions.
