THANK YOU for finding a link to these bags. I saw them at a health food store in Maui last month and wanted to get a few because I always forget to bring the canvas ones with me when i go to the store, but forgot to buy them before I left. I was really bummed, so I'm glad i can get them online.

Those look like they would fill the dog-poop-picking-up niche that has been left by switching from plastic bags. They're washable, right?

Cool, but what about a nice Ortlieb pannier on your new bicycle?

But how will people know how much you spent on them with out logos?

How does a less bulky bag help in remembering to bring them?

You coulda used the headline "Poppa's Got A Brand New Bag" and added a YouTube link. FAIL!

Anon, get a clue. Ortliebs are made from genetically modified orca skin.

@7 - I think the point is you just keep them with you all the time since they're so unbulky, so you don't have to remember. Seems like a good idea to me! If I could get a collapsible travel mug I wouldn't have to use paper cups on the rare occasions I buy coffee out in the world.

yeah, guilt-free... Except that Whole Foods is virulently anti-union, finding excuses to fire any organizers it can. try googling whole foods and anti union.

Yes, but will they carry the guilt you must get from spending your entire paycheck at Whole Foods instead of microfinancing to the third world?

Those are some nice, fun, bags.

personally i LOVE (to the point of ordering 30+ of them and giving them away to friends and coworkers for my last birthday) chico bags - Chico Bags. not only are they small, strong (they can hold up to 20 pounds), and washable, they come with a handy little carabiner to clip to a purse strap, belt loop, brake cable, or wherever you want - check them out!

sorry about the double post up there. also wanted to mention that if you buy 4 chico bags directly from their website you get a 5th one for free - at $5 a pop that's not bad, plus they have a pretty good selection of colours!

I use a similar collapsible bag, given to me by a family member, ALL OF THE TIME. I've been wanting to get another one, but wasn't sure where to pick one up. Thanks for the link.

My mom gave me one ... from the 70s. Good ideas usually have been around a while.

I still prefer to get plastic bags because they are so handy to have around the house for so many tasks, including:

- cleaning the cat box
- lining small waste baskets
- wrapping up produce to stick in the fridge
- putting paint cans in
- keeping socks and underwear confined in your dresser drawer or suitcase
- holding junk mail for later recycling
- keeping in the car as an emergency wastebasket

Thanks! I had one of these, or something similar, about 15 years ago and an exroomate swiped it when she moved out. I am going to order a bunch.

@1, my thoughts exactly. forget the bags, that is one nice coat.

This won't help if you need a bag that fits in your pocket so you won't forget it, but Tom Binh makes a good bag in Seattle. Though it doesn't roll up as small, the canvas will last indefinitely.

people without cars always find a way to tell you they don't have a car.
