??!! Senate Stars
posted by February 29 at 8:44 AM
onDid you know the only astrological voting blocs in the U.S. Senate to vote the right way on Sen. Chris Dodd’s amendment to strike telecom immunity from the FISA bill were Scorpio and Libra?
That’s right: Sens. Joseph Biden, Barbara Boxer, Sherrod Brown, Robert Byrd, Dick Durbin, Tom Harkin, and Jack Reed outvoted their fellow Scorpios in the U.S. Senate, Sens. Jim Bunning, Saxby Chambliss, James Inhofe, Mel Martinez, and Ted Stevens,7-5 on Dodd’s amendment. And U.S. Senate Libras: Sens. Jeff Bingaman, Maria Cantwell, Ben Cardin, Patty Murray, and Sheldon Whitehouse outvoted their fellow U.S. Senate Libras, Chuck Hagel, Blanche Lincoln, and Bill Nelson, 5-3.
How do I know this?
Because the Washington Post’s handy vote tracker, in addition to breaking down votes by Party, State, Region, Gender, and Age—also breaks it down by star sign. ???
Story developing.

Two reactions:
1) I can't believe an actual, respected newspaper is doing that; it has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.
2) I'm disappointed in my fellow Cancers.
I think this is hilarious. Clearly they had everyone's birth date in a table somewhere and thought this would be funny. Good to see a little sense of humor actually make it past the bosses.
@2 - I don't think it's all that funny, really. It'd be funny if it was the Onion, but this is the Washington Post. Lots of people actually seem to believe that the position of the stars 1000 years ago during the month they were born (not, I might add, anymore -- see 'precession') has some influence on their personality and their day-to-day lives. This is utter nonsense, of course, and at best it's really weird for the WaPo to reinforce it and imply that it has an influence on Congress.
Maybe it's just a way to counterbalance the wingnuts that own the Washington Times.
i'm not surprised at all.
we libras are fucking awesome.
@ 1, me too, but apparently we Cancers tend to be conservative, according to something I read a long time ago...
i think this is fantastic.
yes, reading a blanket sun sign horoscope for an entire month's worth of birthdays is utter nonsense. however maybe if you'd actually read up a little on astrology you'd see it is incredibly valid. put your birth info in at http://www.astro.com and click around on the interactive birth chart. see if it doesn't blow your mind.
SUCKA!!
Vomit. Astrology is beyond bogus. The "star signs" aren't even where the astrologers claim they are in the sky.

no shit sherlock, of course the stars have moved a bit. we're talking thousands of years of universe expansion. it still works.
p.s. your name sounds like vomit. ahaha
I'm beyond certain that the data will show that we don't need to waste time casting and tabulating votes - it's all determined by sun sign. Man, those Babylonians really had it all figgered out!
What's up with the Aquarians? Aren't they supposed to be all liberal and shit? So much for astrology.
This is a proud day for those born on the cusp between Libra AND Scorpio, like myself.
The gravitational pull of the midwife or doctor at birth is much greater than that of the moon, let alone any of the stars, which cannot affect us in any way. Astrology is even stupider than homeopathy or spoon bending.
Fnarf,
Are you a Capricorn?
@7 I hope they're better at astrology than they are at wed design. I couldn't find what you were talking about.
All right, I think I found what you were talking about. It was wrong as much as it was right. I also put in a false date to see if that was any more or less accurate. Similar results. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
