Just saw this story on CNN, they reported that he "merely forced her to kiss him." The US military is apparently cooperating with Japanese authorities and not subjecting the 14 year old to water-boarding until she admits to making the whole thing up.
What happened to the days when soldiers were summarily executed for engaging in activity which was detrimental to mission objectives? Like, say, pissing off the entire Japanese nation and risking losing access to a vital Pacific strategic installation?
What the fuck does the military gain by not coming down really hard on these assholes that keep raping or otherwise molesting Okinawans?
Same thing happened in The Karate Kid, Part II. Fortunately, Ralph Macchio delivered justice with his foot.
I find it amusing that the U.S. wants to move its base from Okinawa to a less populous area of Japan due to soldiers engaging in crime, excessive noise, and accidents. Is it really too much to ask of our military men and women to behave themselves while off-base?
what a motherfucker.
Marines have this fucking complex that they think they can take whatever they want and get away with it. This needs to stop especially in Japan. The Marines in Okinawa give Americans a bad impression in Japan.
the inevitable fruits of imperialism.
it is past time for the american empire to end.
Uh, anyone who thinks the Marines give their troops a pass on shit like this does NOT know the Marine Corps. If this guy goes to one of the Marine Corps' (actually Navy) lockups, his life won't be worth shit. The Marine Corps does not look kindly on its members dishonoring the Corps.
What kills me is that this guy is 38. He's a Marine Corps lifer. What the FUCK was he thinking? There are prostitutes aplenty in Okinawa - fella, find a professional. Leave the little girls and the nonconsenting alone!
@4 - Could be that our military are a bunch of poor, uneducated, peeps with no other choice in life. I also heard that the military was no longer using past criminal offenses as a reason to prevent someone from serving. Certainly anyone with any money or "friends" would never end up on the wrong end of a tour of duty (or three) in Iraq. Looks like this too may be W's fault.
@6 Are you sure that's an incorrect impression of America to give?
@2: This may come as a surprise to you, but soldiers are human beings, and American citizens, and as such they have the same right to a fair trial that idiots like you do.
@8,
You seem to know nothing about the mindset of a rapist. Non-consent is the point. Considering the extreme shaming of rape victims in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if he's done this before... and gotten away with it due to non-reportage.
Marya---
Human Beings? Rights? The US Military?
Something does not compute.
That shit has been going on in Okinawa for more than 60 years now.
...And this is why the Okinawans have wanted the U.S. to get the fuck out since at least 1948, if not '45. Remember that they chose to go back to being part of Japan, even after the horrible things the Japanese government did to the Okinawans in the centuries before the war. They hated the U.S. presence that much.
yes! please be kind and leave our land+people alone. we appreciate it very much.
