The solution to our immigration problem?
satellite-photo-united-states-at-night.jpg
Let the whole fucking world live here:

The US debate about immigration has been brewing for some time. It has triggered emotions on many sides and given rise to many proposals, including the bipartisan reform legislation pending before Congress. What would the population density of the United States be if everyone in the world, about 6.7 billion people, were to live there?

A. 400 people per square kilometer

B. 700 people per square kilometer

C. 1,000 people per square kilometer

D. 5,000 people per square kilometer

B. 700 people per square kilometer is correct.

If the entire world population of 6.7 billion lived in the United States, the country’s density would be about 700 people per square kilometer, according to the New York-based Center for Migration Studies.

The Netherlands has a density of about 400 people per square kilometer. Other cities with a high number of people per square kilometer include Singapore (6,500), Hong Kong (6,600), Macao (18,500), and Monaco (22,000).

6.7 billion? When the hell did that happen?

Would/could we get another lane on the bridge in this scenario?

This sounds fishy.

Real Estate agents are behind this, aren't they?

Well, that (mistakenly) assumes that every square kilometer of the US is habitable, which, of course, isn't the case. Think Alaska, much of the high Rockies, the deserts. the swamps, etc., etc.

@4. Beat me to it. To say, well, Singapore has a really high population density, so, the US should be able to have 700 people/sq. km, is a pretty bad comparison.

@4 jesus dude. you could also think of 1 million other reasons why this wouldn't work. i don't think anybody is planning this. disproving wild hypotheticals is pretty fun though.

like, it also (mistakenly) assumes that 6.7 billion people would want to come here. it also (mistakenly) assumes that all 6.7 million people would make it here alive. it also (mistakenly) assumes our militas would allow it. it also (mistakenly) assumes that bigfoot would give up his territory without a fight....

This is completely ignoring the fact that people don't spread out over all of the given territory. They tend to concentrate in urban areas...

This is stupid and pointless. Oh wait, it's a Mudede post.

Why don't we put all the people in the world in Africa? It's much bigger than the U.S.

And it also (mistakenly) assumes that the food for those 6.7 billion people will materialize out of thin air, because at 700+ peeps/square klick, nobody's gonna be growing any food on that land.

We could easily squeeze a billion into the areas around Phoenix and Las Vegas. Pray for rain.

@7 NO. in figuring density, the numbers still come out the same.

6,700,000,000/9,161,923 kmē = 731

Charles,
Is this has to be the low point of your entire career as a thinker!

It also (mistakenly) assumes that the robot migrant workers tending the fields elsewhere in the world where all our food crops would need to be grown wouldn't also want to immigrate here in search of economic opportunity for themselves and their robot offspring.

Iam assuming that this calculation takes in every square kilometer of land in the u.s., which would mean giving up conservation land, federal parks, local parks, etc. in order to accommodate the 700 people per square kilometer. That would include 700 people per sq. kilometer of farm land as well. That would include 700 people per sq. kilometer of desert and mountain as well. And if not, then the use of land should be better spelled out. Is the land that is counted only those occupied by towns and cities, large and small? Given that 1 square mile = 2.589 988 km2, for approx. every half square mile, there would be 700 people on it. Who wants to live like that. Were that to happen, I think the rest of the world would find itself occupied by the decendants of its expatriates as Americans flee their country.

@13 Charles fancies himself as a thinker?

ROFLMFAO

Really?

Charles you don't fancy yourself as some form on intellectual do you?

Reality Check. You aren't. Not even in the same league as some of the SLOGGERS here, let alone in a larger capacity.

Charles a word of advice. Stick to simple topics.... you're way out of your league with anything deeper than opinions on world events. Depth of intellectualism is not your strong suit.

Personally, I think we should let whoever wants to move to America do so, so long as they work during their productive years, up until age 62, when possible. I just don't want a large welfare burden from immigrants if we can avoid it. And we could sure use the population base for more military recruitment if we continue to insist on running large wars in other people's countries.

So a better idea Charles would be for the United States to purchase the northern 1/3 of Mexico for a couple grand.

This would achieve a couple of things:

1. We could create a couple new states out of the new territory
2. all the current illegals could move back to their "homeland"
3. They could start up businesses of their own
4. The USA would have a ready made resort communities all along the new coast.
5. The resort communities would be warmer and drier, perfect for soon-to-be retiring baby boomers.
6. The resulting building explosion would boost the economy.
7. All the illegals would move back further south, thereby keeping some of the traditional cultural fabric intact for what remains of the U.S.
8. We could establish a new Southern border, and remove all obstacles to building a strong secure 3 mile wide DMZ zone inbetween a set of new fences.
9. We would offer a limited 1 year application process for any current Mexican citizen of good standing to apply for citizenship to the new territory.
10. We could build the new coastal cities with smart urban planning. The Federal government could get involved and control all the land use and planning, ensuring that density and transit is properly built out way ahead of time.

Sounds like a good start to me, and I don't see many obstacles or downsides.

Here's a thought: not everyone wants to live in America. In fact I'd guess a vast majority wouldn't.

And if we keep electing idiots, a growing number in America will be moving on as well.

If everyone in the world lived at Manhattan-density, they would only cover the state of Kansas. Letīs do that instead. But not in Kansas.

The white population is shrinking and the darker population is rising and the racist 1/3 of whites are in a total tizzy that the day is coming when they will be in the minority. Maybe they are afraid of payback. Like maybe white schools will be the ones short changed, or whites will suffer more from illnesses that result from a two tiered health care system. Etc.,etc.,...
