Cooling Tower at OKOK
Satsop Cooling Tower No. 5 was built in Elma, Washington, in the 1970s, and abandoned just before it was finished. It is 500 feet tall, covers four acres of grass, and has concrete walls 15 feet thick—it was only a matter of time before artists got their hands on it. Last fall, sound artists Yann Novak, Myello, and Problems used on-site recordings to make compositions that will be heard at OKOK, along with a sculptural installation. (OKOK Gallery, 5107 Ballard Ave NW, 789-6242. 7–9 pm, free.)
