Winter Food

Pho Viet at Pho Viet

Located 50 feet west of the legendarily grubby and delicious soup shack Pho Bac, Pho Viet offers all the vegetarian pho options (in addition to meat dishes) its sister establishment refuses to, in a setting that doesn't make you consider a tetanus shot. It's the little things that make Pho Viet's pho stand out—most notably, the singed and crushed garlic cloves lacing the broth, which give this classic rainy-season fare an addictive new kick. (Pho Viet, 1240 S Jackson St, 568-0882.)

So, it's not really pho at all, but some faux-Vietnamese vegetable soup all white-washed and sterilized for white people?...

Ya, I won't be going.

yeah, but if it wasn't for the uber whitey stranger staff members, who would tell us where it's "safe" for us to go in the I.D.? i mean, no one wants to be confronted with a menu in a foreign language (unless it's french), animal parts of any kind, or less-than-Cheesecake Factory-grade cleanliness.

Pho 900 has the best Pho that I have found. It beat Than Bros and that lame ass Pho Cyclo place on Broadway.

Just went there today. I agree, it's pretty good. They give you a lot of meat, almost too much. But Than Bros and the other places in the U District give you a free cream puff and they are cheaper.

Agree that Pho Cyclo sucks.
