Happy New Year’s Eve 1973 from Bend, Oregon, where we’re staying in a two-bedroom time warp. Gotta love that light fixture over the dining room table. Have five bare light bulbs ever looked better?

Bend? Gods, you really are in the middle of nowhere. My parents lived in Burns for a while, which is about two hours further east from there. Unique countryside.

Have fun down there!

Wow.

I'm sitting in my house in Bend right now.

It is cold a fark outside.

What brought you to Bend, Dan? Skiing? Family? Just picked a pretty place?

You in town or outside of town?

Go eat at La Rosa. Or Kebaba. Or both.

Happy New Year! Did anyone else catch the KING 5 hosts in the Space Needle totally making out? Hilaaaarious!

No, I didn't see the KING 5 folks getting busy - I was stuck on my Capitol Hill roof waiting for the fireworks.

Was it John King? He's supposedly married and cute to boot.

Mt. Bachelor is great skiing, but the local accommodations can be a bit iffy. Inn of the Seventh Mountain used to be OK. At least Bend has a Costco :)
