For a Results-Spoiling Discussion of Last Night’s Project Runway

Proceed to after the jump.

Okay, right when I was categorically sure they were only keeping Elisa on for the freak factor, she goes and makes that not-bad teal thingie the judges couldn't get enough of. Still, the only reason she was allowed to proceed to round two is the freak factor, so I remain deeply skeptical.

As for the two designers on the chopping block: Who expected such heartrending drama so early? Yes, Christian's a nutbag, but I didn't want him to go home, and same went for Marion, who I liked mostly because he reminds me of a less-grumpy Stephin Merritt. But there's no denying Marion's Clan of the Cave Bear rummage-sale smock was an epic disaster—the sag! the brown!—and it was fitting that he go home. Still, sad. He seemed nice.

As for SJP: She also seems nice, and was an impressive reveal. But I think "Bitten" is a bad name for anything, including a clothing line.

Also: spitting?!?!?

I squealed with delight when SJP walked in the room! She's gay royalty.

Did you notice Elisa spit on the dress exactly where Sweet Pea's nether-regions were on the other side of the dress?

I did notice that. "Oh, it's already wet". That woman is a moonbeam. She doesn't know how to use a sewing machine and has no interest in learning. I hope she wins.

Ricky's hat count is up to seven or eight. He must have brought a trunk of them.

Um, the bios say that Elisa has done work for sarah jessica parker . . .

"let me hand measure you"

She's a freak, it's true. But she's a one trick (seam) pony. She's going to run out of new real soon.

Christian cracks me up. He should be able to stick around for a while.

It was really nice that both Marion and Christian took responsibility for their bad outcome rather than try to pin it on the helper.

Am I the only guy who thinks that Jack is just on the show as a piece of meat? My guess is that he will be off within 5 more shows.

Elisa will be around for awhile and so will Christian. Victorya is one who will be part of the final three. She has an aestetic that the judges tend to like.

i can't stand the aesthetic the judges like, sadly. i get that it's suppose to be a look for the "everyday woman," but does that mean that you have to settle? can't you push the envelope just a little bit?

so far, and it's early, but i'm really not feeling any of the designers. maybe kit, but she's really not that amazing. i just wish they would move back towards casting true amateurs.

I think the judges will clash with Christian's ideas a lot. They are, sadly, too old to understand what a vaguely cutting-edge 21-year-old is doing. Or why he'd think that 80's-ish fashion is a good idea.

@6, Like Jay said in Season 1, you have to play the game of the show and that means playing to the judges. I agree that the show has lost something with putting professionals on the show with only a couple of true amateurs.

Too many of the designs are not innovative at all and you can find just about all of it at either Nordstrom's, Macy's or private boutiques around town.

Kinda a Jay fan here and say what you will about him, he really did push the limits and created designs you are not going to find coming from anyone else.

I heart SJP. I'm wondering though: did anyone else have the same immediate reaction to her first closeup that I did? That is, "Oh no, she's had an eye lift!"

I agree that Victorya will make it to the end. I'm also putting early money on Sweet P. Has anyone else gotten a creepy serial killer vibe from Steven? His sense of calm is eerie.

Christian is about as "edgy" as a Hot Topic designer. And does anyone else think he is the spitting image of Chris Cattans character in the Goth Talk segment of SNL? My money is on Victorya.

Sorry but the 80's look didn't cut it. Christian and his partner (what is her name...Flock of Seagulls is all I think when I see her) should've both been booted. I'm pulling for Elisa and Sweet Pea - they ended up making a great team.

Some Project Runway FUN FACTS! Did you know that if the winner of Project Runway takes the prize money that Bravo owns an interest in the winner's line for the entire life of the designers line? That would be like Ralph Lauren starting up on Project Runway and then once he was up on his own he would have to give a cut to Bravo TV for as long as his line was around. (Kinda like the Mob) AND interestingly enough that is why we never see Jay pushing PR since he won and the one time he guest judged on Season 2. Jay turned the money down from Bravo so his collection and art would be totally owned by him and not Bravo.

Jay McCarroll is a little like Tina Turner when she divorced Ike and only wanted the name: nothing else just the name. So Jay: BRAVO!!!

what was it? "i'm just visiting your planet, and bringing some gifts." I love her.

@7: completely agree. i think the design and dress/sweater were the same when christian presented them and made them. and their execution was FLAWLESS. the fact that it could retail for $40 as both pieces is incredible to me; i know so many people who would buy one or both, and possibly wear it with the earrings that the judges derided too. when jeffrey won last season, i thought the judges had finally gotten hip about young, urban, 20-something fashion as well as 45 year old divorcee fashion.

I agree that bringing in professional designers has changed the feel of the show. I kinda like it. It has a way more fun feel to it. Its what drew me to Project Runway in season 2.
