HOLY CRAP!

So now she's using staged "innocent" play to mimic bukkake. On an Asian child, too (bukkake almost always features Japanese women). That's getting awfully close to the edge. She's getting more open about confronting our knowledge of what those images look like, I suppose, but it's turning into propaganda, not art. I don't like it. I've never been a fan, but this is too much.

Yeah, these ones bother me, too. Especially because I just found out one of my friends is going to prison for statutory rape.

fnarf, I hate to be the resident expert on bukkake but...

I think whitey has reached parity with the japanese for bukkake. now it might not be to the quantity of men as used in japan, but there is definitely tons and tons and tons of 10-20 guy bukkake porns in the united states, especially on the internet.

I'll take your word for it, Bellevue Ave!

But "Asian" is still the iconic image, which is what I assume the photographer is going for.

I apologize for being stupid; I thought Jen was saying these were new Nan Goldins. They're not.

that shot with the milk on the giggling kid's head made me shudder.

It's funny, but when I first scrolled down to this post and saw it had a photo, I looked at the photo first before I read what you'd written. And I thought "oh, how cute!" Bukkake (though I know plenty of people well versed in Japanese subcultures who have told me all about it)never crossed my mind.

In other words, I wasn't creeped out until I read what you wrote.

And I wonder, when you saw the scenes originally, was there any literature in pamphlets or on the wall describing the work as "controversial?" Very often, I feel like hype or debate in print that preceeds an art show like that colors the viewer's response to it. They then prepare themselves for "controversy" and respond to that, as opposed to just taking the image on its own merit and responding to that. What do you think?

Maybe this one was made for "mother's and children". Its really sad that the innocence of child/parent interaction and harmless play have to be psycho analyzed and twisted into creepy.

Anyone who's ever been around a 4 year old knows how naturally sexual they are. It's when they're discovering their bodies, feelings and sensations. Big deal! Why is admitting that seemingly creepy? Nan Goldin is no more or less a prev than this guy because all they are doing is observing, or perhaps emphasizing that fact. Regardless of whether its "staged", it's a fact of life.

I don't get the distinction other than to have a more specific opinion on the art subject - sort of add to the dialogue that's floating around for legitimacy. I tried to be creeped out but who cares? The real thing is way more gross. And perhaps is there a double standard because he's male?

I remember in My Neighbor Totoro (Hayao Miyazaki) the dad takes a bath with his two daughters and they playfully splash each other with water and bubbles. Why is that not creepy? Cuz it's a cartoon?

Different cultures. I think it says more about us.

@8: What do you think the artist is trying to say with the yogurt and milk on the face? What does that mean artistically?

@8 What do you think the artist is trying to say, artistically?

@10 My answer: Nothing. Why?

In @11 I meant to be asking @10 the same question.

Jeez-Us! I most be a-getting even more cynical, because these images just didn't phase me, negatively or positively.

So if the artist is saying nothing, what is this? Not art, surely.
