City wins court ruling in Sonics case
Today U.S. District Court Judge Ricardo Martinez ruled against Clay Bennett and the Sonics ownership group, denying their request to seek arbitration and buy out the last two years of the KeyArena lease.

Team owners had sought to send the case to binding arbitration in an effort to leave KeyArena before the lease ends in September 2010.In his written ruling this afternoon, Martinez agreed with the city that the dispute revolves around the essential term or length of the lease. He called the Sonics’ owners arguments to the contrary “as errant as a typical Shaquille O’Neal free throw.”
While this doesn’t mean the Sonics are staying, it certainly delays Bennett’s Oklahoma City-relocation efforts.
The NBA season starts tomorrow night. I can’t fucking wait.

@4: I totally disagree. What the dorky one-liner means is that the judge is a basketball fan through and through; that may have nothing to do with his ruling, but I'd like to think otherwise. Go Sonics.
Judge Martinez rules. It doesn't matter whether you like or hate the Sonics or basketball in general, Martinez simply read the team's lease with the City and interpreted it in a way that will make it more difficult for the team to BREACH the lease. Which I think is awesome. They should pay pay pay to the City for the Key Arena until their lease is up, in my view.
Judge Ricardo Martinez better watch out, or else he's gonna get swift-boated by Aubrey K. McClendon and the rest of those swift-boating bastards.

For Basketball, Key Arena's OK (no pun intended)but over all...it sucks.
