Red Hatters Matter

posted by on October 5 at 16:24 PM

HOW WAS IT? is back, and if you’re one of the seemingly hundreds of people I harassed when THESE guys played a concert at the Puyallup Fair, here’s the video:

The band, though they’re a bit older and wider, I mean WISER, sounded amazing. It was a perfect and excellent show. My favorite part of the night, however, was when I tried to convince a lady from the Seattle Chapter of the Red Hat Society that Devo (and men in general) should be allowed to join their 600,000 members-strong cult. I mean CLUB.

She didn’t think I was very funny.

Fuck the Red Hat Society! I used to take complaints from cruise passengers, and the Red Hat Society acted like the most entitled bunch of bitches to ever file a complaint.

That Devo coverage was most appreciated. Made me feel like a big fool for not going.
Best thing you have done this year.

Fuck the Red Hat Society indeed. It's a club for old ladies to do fun things and not actually have fun doing them.

Those red hat ladies are a cult and they brow beat women into being a part of them. They've gotten to my mother, but she hates every minute of it. I think she gets migraines on the days of their gatherings. There's a women under 50 division with pink hats. I have refused and resisted despite many attempts to badger me in. First they use charm, then badgering, then isolate you. Cult indeed!

oh, i'm a fan of the red hat ladies. after my grandfather died, the organization really helped my grandmother. it keeps old ladies busy, and that is a huge help.

Took a perfectly good hokey poem about aging and turned it into a menopausal freakfest. Sigh.

I have instructed my children to kill me if, at any time during my dotage, they catch me doing certain things, like dyeing my hair jet black or bitching about my Medicare benefits. I'm adding "If I join the Red Hat Ladies" to my list.

Glad to see Devo, though. Now THAT'S how to age.

Although the original intent of that cheesy poem has truly been perverted, I'm with kC @6. My 84 year old mother is involved and it brings a lot to her life.

Don't hate on the Red Hat Ladies. They handled my grandfather's whole funeral after his very sudden death, and they helped my grandmother get back on her feet and out in the world. After 52 years of being a full time housewife, she didn't have a clue as to what to do with herself after he passed away. She has traveled all over the world with the ladies and has a life she didn't have before. I, for one, am really happy they are around.

"Are we not men?" "No."

Priceless.

If it wasn't for the Red Hat Ladies, there isn't a single community theater around here that would still be even remotely solvent. I heart the Red Hat Ladies. They get butts in seats!
