Dept. of Unsubstantiated Rumors

posted by on September 18 at 22:28 PM

Did you know the 43rd District Ds just decided to endorse neither Della nor Burgess, and defeated a motion to endorse both of them? Just passing it along…

Didn’t know that, know it now.

Where are you going, bitch?

Did you run this by your editor before posting it as indisputable fact on your blog?

You're going to remain on Slog, right? If you're going to leave and abandon all of your foul language and your presence in general @ the Stranger...you do know, we'll fuckin' hate you for it. HATE!!!

Selling out is for Green Day and Christopher Walken. Not you, Dan. Not you.

@2 Since when is something filed under 'unsubstantiated rumors' a fact?

However, they did endorse Venus by a wide margin and Godden without a vote to spare.

You went the whole day without commenting on Burgess. Thought the Stranger was trying to sweep the whole issue under the carpet.

I'm not going anywhere, Mr. Poe.

I am all but certain that Dan's anonymous tipster is wrong. As I heard it, Della and Burgess received a dual endorsement. That's what the not-yet-published meeting minutes report.

P.S. There was no "motion" involved. It's a defined process -- on Round 1, members may vote for any/all candidates, with anyone reaching 60% winning endorsement. If no one reaches 60% on Round 1, there's a Round 2 reconsideration vote on whether to endorse all candidates who got between 40% and 60% on Round 1. Both Della and Burgess met the latter condition on Round 1, and the dual endorsement did receive 60% of the votes on Round 2. (Ditto, BTW, for Carr and Flynn in School District #2.)

N in Seattle: I personally heard the Chair announce the no endorsement for either Burgess or Della at the end of the meeting. Since you were there, too, how did we hear two different things?

Hopefully, people spoke out against Burgess.

the 43rd endorsements are listed here:

jean godden finally got recognized by the 43rd dems for her progressive leadership, despite the best efforts of her green party challenger to smear her on a rovian level at the event last night.

Hmmm, 43rd Dem, I clearly heard exactly the opposite. But it was all in a confused rush at the end, so I'm checking it out with the chair and the tally committee.

My records show these results from the 43rd:

Previously endorsed -- Bill Sherman, Scott Noble, Larry Gossett, Larry Phillips, Dow Constantine, Gael Tarleton, Alec Fisken, Tom Rasmussen, Sally Clark

Endorsed last night -- Jean Godden, Venus Velazquez, dual David Della/Tim Burgess, Peter Maier, dual Darlene Flynn/Sherry Carr, Harium Martin-Morris, Steve Sundquist, NO on I-960, YES on R-67, NO on SJR8212, YES on HJR4204, YES on HJR4215, YES on MedicOne

Other items considered last night -- NO ENDORSEMENT on SJR8206, NO ENDORSEMENT on Roads & Transit

As I take it, you'd put the Della/Burgess race in the last category (NO ENDORSEMENT). We'll have to check on that. Neither of them mentions the 43rd on his website, but I don't know how fast they are at updating.

Why would you question the 43rd District website? Do you think it is a mistake. Too bad they did not endorse Della which would make it that much more difficult for hatemonger Burgess to get elected.

OK, looks like I had it wrong.

Which pleases me ... it's the way I voted. I must admit that I was very surprised when I (mis)heard that we had dual-endorsed.

I do still have to recheck with the LD chair, however. I am absolutely certain that we did not take a position on SJR8206 (the "rainy day fund" amendment). Oh, and the King County Prop 1 endorsed on the 43rd's website is MedicOne, not the confusingly-labeled Prop 1 that is Roads & Transit.

Touring @ 15, if you casually pre-pend "hatemonger" to Tim Burgess' name, you clearly have never met Tim Burgess, examined his views on the issues, or heard him speak. He is the furthest thing from a hatemonger.

The big news of the night was that the No side on RTID/ST2 got a lot more than the Yes side, in a strong showing by the Sierra Club.

And, yes, we do want transit. But we'll vote for ST2 in February, without the increased global warming, thanks.

In bed with hate mongers - increases the word on the street that you are complicit.

NEWS, as ENDA moves thru Congress, history in the making, and looks like it might pass the House soon, guess what organization is the leading OPPONENT, still kicking gay people around with overheated rhetoric, lies and propaganda.

YEP, Concerned Women of America.

HRC is putting our material to supporters mentioning them specifically as the leading right wing opponent group.

Thank Burgess, kept them strong, kept the millions flowing from the suckers, so they could keep spewing hate and lies about GLBT folk - EVEN today, as we post their evil propaganda is shouted in the Halls of Congress.

Thanks Burgess, how is it possible for GLBT folk to pretend this guy is a leader on their politcal needs?

Go Della Go. This is a crazy, crazy district, and their process is one of the most difficult for humans to understand. It can take forEVER to get the count back. Nevertheless, David Della DID get endorsed, and is continuing to just rack 'em up. NARAL, SGN (why does SLOG hate SGN, anyway?), King County Democrats, King County Labor Council, Alki Foundation -- talk about your diverse audiences.

Burgess will get crushed.

You never know what can happen when you go into an election. All the endorsements are stacked but then a bunch of insensitive petty asses think they are voting for more bike lanes and compost piles. But we will keep our fingers crossed. I am very surprised there is no political organization actively going in to try to defeat CWfA...oh I mean Burgess.
@17 I am sure Burgess is a very nice guy in person AND I am sure there are lots of conservatives who were able to hid their social politics and get elected to the city council. Think of all the past pro-business “limousine liberals” elected to the Seattle Council. Who knows their real stance on social issues?
The problem is Burgess has the blood on his hands of thousands of young people that committed suicide thanks to the millions of dollars he raised for one of the most evil organizations. I cannot forgive that…
But Trey is a really cool name. Seriously.
