Morning News

posted by on August 22 at 7:53 AM

Convenient: Bush Administration distances itself from Maliki.

Incompetent: Report shows how CIA failed to prevent 9/11.

Oblivious: 1.7 million low-income children— 30% of those eligible for public health care—simply haven’t signed up for the program.

Depressing: 14 US soldiers die in Blackhawk crash in Iraq.

Stern: Seattle City Council may force Sonics to stay at Key Arena.

Expensive: Feds increasingly rely on no-bid contracts—leading to a tripling in spending since 2000.

Even more Convenient: Five million White House e-mails go missing and now the administration claimes the White House records about those missing e-mails are private.

Primary Election Results: in the Seattle Times, in the PI, on Slog and on the King County’s Web Site.

List of the Day: The Top 10 Military Rifles/Machine Guns of All Time

Let the Sonics go to Oshkosh or Billings or wherever they want to go. The team sucks. Whatever illusion that they're connected to Seattle has been shattered. They can be a money pit for another community.

Finally we can blame someone for 9/11 besides the terrorists.

the sonics will buy their way out. the city will deal. this is the last year.

the terms of the deal should require that the city keep the name.

start figuring how we can steal the hornets from NOLA.

You know, call me evil but as much as I want the Sonics to get haul their asses out of town, there is a little part of me that relishes the city forcing them to stay. ((evil laughing)). I just like the thought of them not getting their way and maybe it is a fitting present for our overpaid teams.

Classy Drudge headline: Gay Hooker Cop Arrested At Motel...

So Josh, why is your lead in that this is ‘convenient’ for Bush instead of just saying it’s the obvious fact?

Mr. Bush acknowledged “a certain level of frustration” with the Iraqi government’s failure to unify its warring ethnic factions.

And in regard to missing White House missing e-mails. They are private. Period. As private as Hillary’s billing records from the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock when the Republicans went on their fishing expedition.

Gee, Gratuitous Bush, seems like most people might find maybe a little difference between the emails of a branch of our government--of the people, by the people, etc.--and a private law firm. But then again, you're a retarded loser cunt, so so figure...

Also, measured statements from newswire reports need to be read as what they are--but I would hazard that the quotation marks around a certain level of frustration is communicating something with irony. You can be that "certain level of frustration" isn't just aimed at the Iraqi government--it's aimed at ours, too.

Top Ten Guns is wrong - M14 and M16 both sucked big time, and the AK 47 is too low in the rankings.

Someone should tell the Sonics to leave now and leave the Storm behind until the lease is paid off.

The AK is ranked #1, they started at 10 and worked down. I would respectfully disagree on your other points as well. The M-14 was loved in its day and even now US SF units are using it, sort of like a BAR. Also, though much more controversial, the M-16 is light and effective, though not perfect. Given it's weight and ammo size against the rest on the list is why I think it #2.

In less high profile, but fascinating to me, news, the inflation rate in Zimbabwe has now hit 7,364%. Imagine knowing that the $100 bill in your pocket would be worth about a penny by the end of the year.
