Haggard & Huberty: The Latest

posted by on August 27 at 17:25 PM

The Ted Haggard/Paul Huberty scandal has now hit the Colorado Springs Gazette, the hometown newspaper of the Christian right and Haggard’s New Life Church. The Gazette walks its readers through the you-heard-it-hear-first Huberty angle—the well-to-do Haggard asks his “supporters” to send him money via a convicted sex offender—but the Gazette has some new info.

First, the Gazette seems to be the first news operation that’s gotten some sort of response from Huberty.

HubertyRegister-1.jpg

In his Monday e-mail, Huberty declined to talk about his criminal past. “My past record from years ago is documented and has nothing to do with Pastor Haggard or with this non-profit organization that seeks to help people in need,” he wrote.

Years ago? Huberty was convicted in Hawaii—the conviction that landed him that state’s sex offenders registry—way, way back in 2004. So, you know, ancient history. Move along, folks, nothing to see here!

The Gazette also breaks the news reports that the “faith-based halfway house” in Phoenix where Haggard said he would be living with his wife and two of his children while he and the wife went back to school—the Dream Center—never agreed to let Haggards move in. Back to the Gazette:

In an e-mail sent to the media and supporters last week, Haggard said he planned to work for the Dream Center, a faith-based halfway house in Phoenix…. Haggard wrote that he and his family would live at the center and that they needed financial support for the next two years as he and his wife finished earning college degrees. In spite of earning $338,000 since the beginning of 2006, he said, “we are looking for people who will help us monthly for two years.”

That announcement came as a surprise to those in charge of the Dream Center, and Haggard will not be working or living there, said the Rev. Leo Godzich, associate pastor at Phoenix First Assembly of God.

Man! The ministers overseeing Haggard’s spiritual restoration are going to have so much to discuss when they get to Phoenix tomorrow!

Dan, a little research would show you that that Gazeete is not as bad as it used to be and the christians aren't as powerfull in C. Springs as they used to be. In fact, the gazette was ALL over haggard and openly tore up new life.

THen again, you would actually have to do some research instead of being a judgemental fucking bigot.

Hey, Buddy!

Haggard's old outfit, New Life Church, is in CS; Focus on the Family is in CS -- along with "more than 100 other evangelical Christian groups," says NPR. The Gazette, consequently, is their hometown newspaper -- I didn't say the Gazette was a bad paper, or in the pockets of the Christian right, or the "mouthpiece" of the Christian right. Just their hometown paper. Which they are because, you see, the Colorado Springs Gazette is the daily paper in Colorado Springs, which is home to New Life, Focus on the Fambly, and 100 other blah blah blah.

But thanks for reading, ecce! Now I'm off to the Ms game with my kid--but we'll stop in at Pony for a drink on the way. We got him an awesome fake ID last week.

Have a nice night, ecce!

Tikkun Olum the obligation to Tzedakah is well served with these attacks on the Christian idiots.

Being sloppy with the facts doesn't matter, goi are too ignorant to check up on them.

Jews are never sex offenders and are never caught in public scandels because Judaism makes men righteous. The goi must have constant reminders of the failure and hypocrisy of their religion. Judaism is the better religion.

Given that all religions are ridiculous, arguing over which religion is "better" is truly a fool's errand.

@1: I'm glad the Gazette is reporting all this... and it was a local Springs TV station reporter that did get it started.

If you wanna jump on someone about research, start with me. I'm the a-hole here, not Savage. Otherwise my partner and I are off to look at a new puppy.

What? Haggard lied about where he will be living and working? I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

Oh well, at least he's cured now, and is one hundred percent heterosexual again. That is such a relief.

Ted and his wife need money to support themselves while "studying for the next two years at the University of Phoenix"????

Isn't that an "ONLINE" University? Even where they do have buildings that classes are taught in, their website says they cater to the "Working Student".

Why don't Ted and his fat ass wife (oh wait, that was just Mark Driscoll's view) get REAL jobs, maybe like working as janitors at one of the halfway houses at which he "identifies" so compassoinately with the clientele.

Fucking tool.

Support Ted Haggard the compulsive liar and hypocrite?!?!!

How about supporting Mike Jones?

Ted hasn't sold or even attempted to rent his $750k home in Colorado Springs and yet has the audacity to ask for contributions either directly or via this sham money-laundering "charity".

Meanwhile, Mike Jones, who exposed Ted for the fraud he is has paid a huge personal price; relying on friends with paltry support from the "gay community" and does not ask for support.

He gets no fees for continuing to speak out whenever the media calls. When Mike went to New Life Church, even Haggard's former church members thanked him for exposing this hypocrite.

I urge all those who are appalled by hypocrisy to support Mike and thank him for all he's done for us and practice tithing. You can support Mike easily, securely and legally! via PayPal. Just open an account (no charge), use the "Send Money" tab and in the box "TO" enter Mike's email: Massageandmuscle@aol.com and enter whatever you'd like to send.

Judaism is not ridiculous, it is only Christianity and Islam that are for fools. Judaism is righteous and founded on profound truth.

@11- As a Jew, I can totally call BS on that. All religions "are for fools."

Shut up Issur - you are boring us all.

Go babble where babble is prized.

Orthodox JEWS are more homophobic that the right wingers in questions, and also as hypocritical.

And sadly, a high price is paid by many secret closeted guilt ridden cock suckers to boot.

Peddle elsewhere, please.

ecce asswhipe @1

Speaking of research, it was Dan & Dave's research that broke this story to begin with, and now it's made national headlines! But I'm sure that's nothing compared to your accomplishments today. Which were... um.... what exactly?

Congrats Dan and Dave!

Dan! Dan!

Senator Larry Craig has been arrested for lewd conduct. Another Right Wing hypo.

This story gets more unbelievable with every new report.

I really think Haggard must be a full-on meth addict to be flying so close to the crazy.

And I'd love to have Josh/Shoshanna and Ecce Whathaveyou over for a nice cup of tea and really get to know them. Such well balanced, emotionally healthy individuals. We all could learn a lot from them.

Just read the Craig story. Jeebus fuck, these Republicans cannot keep their mouths off of all the tearoom dick!

Thanks for putting a cherry on the cake of my day, Rod@16.
