I was expecting that somebody here would mark Mission Accomplished Day with a post about how silly protesters are. It's not too late, Jonah!
My mission today is to go to the Children's Hospital Thrift Store in Kent to pick up a beater for my KitchenAid Mixer.
Should I accomplish this, I will be strutting about in a codpiece on my deck this afternoon. Watch for it. I will be the freakishly pale blob on north Beacon Hill that is causing traffic to slow on Rainier Avenue.
I propose everyone use the phrase "Mission Accomplished" as much as possible today.
Send an e-mail: "Mission Accomplished"
Eat a donut: "Mission Accomplished"
Take a shit: "MIssion Accomplished"
And the standard has been set... you DON'T even have to actually accomplish ANYTHING to SAY "mission accomplished". You can just say it.
Write an email but send it to the wrong person/people: "Mission Accomplished!"
Take a couple bites out of a donut and put it back in the box: "Mission Accomplished!"
Take a shit but don't wipe: "Mission Accomplished!" (this one seems rather fitting, actually)

In other news, John Browne, the CEO of British Petroleum, resigned today after being outed – which is kinda huge news in that a gay man ran one of the world’s largest oil companies all these years.
"In my 41 years with BP I have kept my private life separate from my business life," Browne said in the statement.
"I have always regarded my sexuality as a personal matter, to be kept private. It is a matter of deep disappointment that a newspaper group has now decided that allegations about my personal life should be made public," he added.
Yeah, I heard that. But still in the closet are Bush and Cheney, as well as Rove.

I've read that some on the right insist that Bush didn't say "Mission Accomplished" in that speech, and they are correct.
Of course, his people did make and hang a large "Mission Accomplished" banner in full view for the speech. Bush did say "In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed." And a little over a month later (June 5), he told troops in Qatar:
"I am happy to see you, and so are the long-suffering people of Iraq. America sent you on a mission to remove a grave threat and to liberate an oppressed people, and that mission has been accomplished."
