RSS icon Comments on Virginia Tech Massacre: Who's to Blame?

i hate to say it, but i thought about that yesterday. but remember when pat robertson or whomever said that hurricaine katrina was the fault of the gays because of southern decadance coming up. that's just as stupid as saying God made this happen because virginia is mean to the gay. I hope he follows up with that.

Its not the gays, its god's punishment for not reelecting the god fearing, North African hatingm George Felix Allen

Did you not read your link, Dan? It sounds like he's blaming the US military, which remains (wink, wink) gay-less.

Posted by DOUG. | April 17, 2007 9:06 AM

Thank god somebody remembered that the massacre was all part of the "gay agenda." I was worried for a moment that we were going to blame the psycopath with the guns.

Phelps is as predictable as the sunrise. At least his particular brand of madness involves irritating people instead of shooting them. Small comfort.

I wore the clothes you wanted
I took your name
If there is some confusion, who's to blame?

I signed your living will
I smiled your face
I'm ready to close the book on NASA in outer space

If there is some confusion
Who's to blame?
Who's to blame?

I sequenced your arrival
I sealed your fate
I pushed the button and erased your master tape

I wrote the sales pitch
I threw the brake switch
I dragged your big ass daddy roth car out of that ditch

I crossed your great divide
I stirred your ocean's tide
I called your bluff until I blew your circuits wide

I'll be your albatross,
Devil, dog, Jesus, God,
I don't wanna be Iggy Pop but if that's what it takes, hey

If there is some confusion
If there is some confusion
If there is some confusion
Who's to blame?
Who's to blame?
Who's to blame?

Blame Michael Stipe and all the people who defy bisexual categorization. They'll blow your circuits wide.

It's a bank shot, Doug, but here's how Phelps works it out: God is killing our soldiers over there because we're not killing our homos over here. Every bad thing that happens to the USA, inside the USA, near the USA, is the result of our great nation's tolerance of the gays.

God apparently hasn't heard of Canada, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, South Africa--all places where the gays have it better than they do here.

Posted by Dan Savage | April 17, 2007 9:12 AM

Good, he needs to protest a LOT more than he is because everytime he and his group does they look like the fucking loons they are.

Posted by monkey | April 17, 2007 9:12 AM

No, no, no. You see, Jack Thompson already called it yesterday on Fox News, before the identity of the shooter was released, that it was video games.

Posted by Jessika | April 17, 2007 9:12 AM

@9 so did doctor Phil.

Posted by seattle98104 | April 17, 2007 9:15 AM

I'm surprised the anti-immigration camp hasn't been heard from yet.

Posted by gryphon773 | April 17, 2007 9:15 AM

Oh god this is getting juicy. I love the blame-game! Video-games, immigrants, homosexuals. Hell, let's just blame them all!

Posted by Faber | April 17, 2007 9:24 AM

Who are these faggots who are so busy destroying America? Every queen I know is too busy figuring out how to buy $300 jeans when they only make $12/hr.

Posted by Gitai | April 17, 2007 9:28 AM

A gay immigrant who loves video games, why thats the trifecta of evil.

Posted by Giffy | April 17, 2007 9:50 AM

I blame society.

Posted by binky | April 17, 2007 10:08 AM

Actually, Dan, Phelps does know about other countries. Years ago he did a campaign against Canada, calling us "a tumor on top of America's head" or some such. He even tried to come up and do a protest here, but Customs wouldn't let him in. Reportedly, one Customs officer was so pissed off that he threw one of Phelps' signs to the floor and jumped up and down on it. So, I think Phelps has simply given up on us as irredeemable. Yay.

Please don't let them take our ability to entertain ourselves away. Pretty soon this is all going to start getting Orwellian. The culture of fear is upon us and I am afraid for our freedom.

Posted by summertime | April 17, 2007 10:14 AM

On WP, they say the shooter was foreign (South Korean). So can't it just be that God hates dusky races?

Posted by Kat | April 17, 2007 10:47 AM

Dan, you have a short memory.

Why, it was just last summer that Phelps and the gang were going after those Godless, homo-loving Swedes. Apparently, Got Hates Sweden too. Sadly, the Swedes, like our neighbors to the north, refused him entry, and sent him packing back to the USA. So we are stuck with him.

Perhaps Rev. Dr. Hutch can let him be the next Special Envoy to Latvia.

All you pro-gun control people should reconsider your position, if only because gun control would make it less likely that some wacko will kill the Rev. Fred Phelps.

I don't even care that he would be martyred. I'd just be happy that he's gone.

Posted by MBI | April 17, 2007 11:20 AM

Hmm, maybe we'd better start making sure you don't have plans, MBI?

Posted by Will in Seattle | April 17, 2007 11:42 AM

Gitai @13: This is hilarious, if only because it is mostly true.

Posted by Aislinn | April 17, 2007 12:04 PM

MBI @ 20,

The small problem with your argument is that these things always happen to innocent people, and never to people who actually have it coming like say at the Republican National Convention.

Strange, isn't it?

Also, why does Jesus keep wiping out people in places that already hate homos like Louisiana, Alabama and Virginia?

That Jesus is one sick fuck.

Posted by Original Andrew | April 17, 2007 12:26 PM

@21. Oh, don't worry about me, I have no plans to shoot anyone. Don't have a gun, would be more of a danger to myself if I did, and hey hey, I don't have time to go to Kansas to kill anyone. I have a job.

@23. Hey, conservatives get shot plenty. George Wallace got shot, didn't he? Reagan got shot, didn't he?

Posted by MBI | April 17, 2007 12:36 PM

I just discovered this, and am finding that having watched it makes it SO much easier for me to deal with the existence of Fred Phelps:

Posted by Noink | April 17, 2007 1:53 PM

I hope if he and his family/church do protest, that they get stomped into the ground.

Posted by elswinger | April 17, 2007 3:07 PM

It appears that the person that is to blame already gave himself the death penalty.

More important to me than who is to blame however, how can we help to prevent this sort of thing from happenening again.

This one's going out to all family members, friends, and faculty who lost loved ones in the wake of the Virginia Tech massacre:

Virginia's Tears
words and music by Dr BLT (c) 2007

Just for the record, while the state of Virginia may be conservative and anti-gay, we here in Blacksburg are decidedly not. We have two Green Party town council members, and when the (mostly out-of-towner-politico) VT Board of Visitors surreptitiously tried to amend our non-discrimination policy to not provide protection from discrimination based on sexual orientation, the student body of Tech raised such a stink that the BoV was forced to flee with their tail between their collective legs, and orientational non-discrimination was immediately codified into our hiring and academic policies to keep the situation from turning into a coup.

Virginia may be anti-gay, but VT and Blacksburg are decidedly not.
