i hate to say it, but i thought about that yesterday. but remember when pat robertson or whomever said that hurricaine katrina was the fault of the gays because of southern decadance coming up. that's just as stupid as saying God made this happen because virginia is mean to the gay. I hope he follows up with that.

It's a bank shot, Doug, but here's how Phelps works it out: God is killing our soldiers over there because we're not killing our homos over here. Every bad thing that happens to the USA, inside the USA, near the USA, is the result of our great nation's tolerance of the gays.

God apparently hasn't heard of Canada, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, South Africa--all places where the gays have it better than they do here.

Actually, Dan, Phelps does know about other countries. Years ago he did a campaign against Canada, calling us "a tumor on top of America's head" or some such. He even tried to come up and do a protest here, but Customs wouldn't let him in. Reportedly, one Customs officer was so pissed off that he threw one of Phelps' signs to the floor and jumped up and down on it. So, I think Phelps has simply given up on us as irredeemable. Yay.

Dan, you have a short memory.

Why, it was just last summer that Phelps and the gang were going after those Godless, homo-loving Swedes. Apparently, Got Hates Sweden too. Sadly, the Swedes, like our neighbors to the north, refused him entry, and sent him packing back to the USA. So we are stuck with him.

Perhaps Rev. Dr. Hutch can let him be the next Special Envoy to Latvia.

It appears that the person that is to blame already gave himself the death penalty.

More important to me than who is to blame however, how can we help to prevent this sort of thing from happenening again.

Just for the record, while the state of Virginia may be conservative and anti-gay, we here in Blacksburg are decidedly not. We have two Green Party town council members, and when the (mostly out-of-towner-politico) VT Board of Visitors surreptitiously tried to amend our non-discrimination policy to not provide protection from discrimination based on sexual orientation, the student body of Tech raised such a stink that the BoV was forced to flee with their tail between their collective legs, and orientational non-discrimination was immediately codified into our hiring and academic policies to keep the situation from turning into a coup.

Virginia may be anti-gay, but VT and Blacksburg are decidedly not.
