Mama always said, "if you can't say somethin' nice don't say anything at all."
I worry this may be a new admin tactic -
characterize Libby's conviction as a witch
hunt, claim Dems are trying to trap admin
officials with perjury by grilling them until they make inconsistent statements, and Voila! no need to testify
Hope I'm wrong.
It is her right to plead the fifth. At least someone in the administration knows one of the Bill of Rights.
Wait--help, I don't understand...there was never any suggestion that anyone did anything *illegal* was there?
Aw fuck. Shades of Iran-Contra hearings are coming back.
Did Schoolhouse Rock do a thingamajig on the Fifth Amendment already?
Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies.
Any resemblance to the Mafia Clan is purely coincidental, and obvious.
Yes, obviously she has a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to take the Fifth. However, she's not an ordinary citizen. She's not just defending her own bad self from prosecution; she's defending the central legal body of the nation. And taking the Fifth in that circumstance is EXTREMELY DAMNING. Gonzalez and his henchmen must go.
Offer her blanket immunity and she'll have to testify, she's a small fish and getting the truth out if far more important than putting the people at the bottom of the pyramid in jail.
Exactly. She shouldn't be taking the Fifth, anyways; she's not the target of anything. The Fifth Amendment doesn't give you the right to protect your boss. Immunity, then compelled testimony, then resignations all around.
