Hillary For…

Posted by on August 3 at 18:13 PM

Senate Minority Leader?

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid… has sent private signals to Senator Hillary Clinton and other stalwarts of the party that he “would like to” step down from his post in early 2009…. What Reid is offering Senator Hillary Clinton is his total, robust support to succeed him as Senate Majority Leader if she elects not to pursue the Democratic nomination for President.

Many are realizing that the electoral map is not something one can wave a magic wand over and reverse the views of 42% of Americans who believe that they know Hillary Clinton well and have strongly formed views of her and will not vote for her under any conditions—according to recent polls. Reports are that Senator Clinton herself knows this and that her own enthusiasm for running actually trails that of her husband, her advisors, and her staff—whose enthusiasm for the race is ranked in that order with Hillary the least enthusiastic.

GOOD!!! That bitch lost all hope of my support when she tried to introduce that pandering flag burning amendment. She should have realized that actions like that won't make Jethro Six Pack like her. She will always be Hitlery in their eyes even if she killed Osama while flying a Blue Angel and giving Toby Keith a blow-job. All her pandering does is piss of her base.

Oh, okay. This explains why she asked for Rummie's resignation (which I'm all for, f***ing jerk that he is) - I mean, wow! she actually said something a little rankling to this administration for once, and now I know (perhaps) why! Thanks for making the picture a little clearer. Maybe.

Hillary for Minority Leader? No.

Hillary for Majority Leader? Hell yes.

This may actually be a good fit for her.

I have never understood the hate, that so many people have for Hillary... Realistically speaking, I don't think she would ever be voted in as president, and this is not based on her ability to fill, said role. I just think that if she becomes our candidate, it will serve as a huge rallying point for both right wing and moderate conservatives.
I actually think Hillary would serve the American people well... But even so I still like Al better. I think he has been groomed to be a president, from the start. So I support Draftgore2008 110%!
Conversely, if we do choose her in the primaries, she will most assuredly have my vote...

The hate for Hillary?

I can tell you why *I* hate Hillary.

Answer one question: When did Hillary Clinton claim residency in New York state?

well, New Yorkers elected her to be their Senator, which renders the timing of her residency a meaningless technicality.

Dex, what does that matter? By all accounts, she's done a good job for the people of New York. Besides, political carpetbagging in US politics is nothing new.

The reason morons and mouth breathers hate Hillary is because they got brainwashed by the right-wing smear campaign against her, and because they are threatened by smart, successful women.

Those are the same reasons that a lot of people - including self-loathing women, of whom there are a lot, unfortunately - would never vote for her. I'd be happy to vote for her, but I'd hate to see her nominated, because of the idiotic nature of the electorate.

I think she could be very effective in Harry Reid's spot. If the Dems take back Congress, there'll be a lot of clean-up to do from the mess the GOP has made of things (as usual) and a smart, highly visible person like her could really shine.

Catalina said it well.

Unfortunately, Hillary is a lightning rod, for many reasons that have nothing to do with her skills or even her politics. She is smart to realize it and seek to put her skills to good use in a way that can best serve the country. That takes insight and guts.

Ha. I had been arguing for ages that Hillary wasn't going to run despite all the chatter but in the past few months, I had slowly been beginning to believe she actually was. And then this comes out.

I think she could win a Presidential race, but Senate Majority Leader is such a great fit for her.

There's no reason she can't do both. She's still young enough. Four years or so as majority leader might give her enough visibility for people to see her and realize how full of shit the conservatives are.

Of course, The dems need to take back the Senate for her to be majority leader, but even as minority leader she could be an effective voice. She sure gave Rumsfeld some serious crap yesterday.

I approve of such a move. Harry Reid has been a senator from my home state since I could remember, yet I was puzzled by his promotion to minority leader. He does not come across as much of a leader, his best trait being a persistent ability to filibuster a bill to death (his years of filibustering the bill to build a nuke dump in Yucca Mountain is the ONLY reason they're not already trucking nuke waste to Southern Nevada by the trailerload).

Hillary is more in your face and proactive. She's a better choice for the position.

Yes, it was a pleasure watching Hillary call Rumsfeld incompetent, etc.... More, more, more!

Lightning rods, in politics and in real life, can be very useful things. I'm not a fan of Hillary for Prez, because she'd get her ass kicked (Senators cannot win period), but as Minority or Majority Leader she'd be great. She's an almost perfect example of what a Senator should be.

I'd be cool with that. She'd make a great majority leader in the US Senate.

I love Hillary and I have decided I will vote for her if she runs (even if the pundits all feel she can't win). I am sick of voting for Al Gore, John Kerry or other lackluster candidates who we think are winnable and palatable to the middle. Yeah, like that strategy really worked.

Pro urban agenda is what I’d like to see. Hillary has a very solid history re: pro choice and pro gay agenda. Those will be my top 2 issues from now on when I vote.

But she's a Senator, with that classic Senatorial pronunciamento way of speaking (see John Kerry for the all-time canonical example), which causes most ordinary Americans to say "what a dick; is s/he making FUN of me?". Dems need to learn this pronto.
