America the Beautiful

Last night a bear walked through our campsite. Today that same bear was shot for threatening people. Ah, camping. None of the comforts of home, none of the luxuries of a hotel—and the occasional killer carnivore drops by for dinner. We were told today that there are nine maulings in this national park every year. There hasn’t been one this year yet—so maybe tonight will be our lucky night!

But the Grand Tetons—that’s where we’re staying, and it’s French for “Big Tits” (really!)—are beautiful. Still, I can’t wait to get back to a place where the bears drink Miller Lite and maul only each other (and occasionally our art director), and not innocent campers.

Oh! The Grand Tetons! I was there a few months ago for work, and it was lovely! Jackson Hole is a fantastic place to go out for a night-on-the-town, small-town wise.

Dan, thanks for the updates from your driving vacation. I can think of no better way to show the islamo-terrorists we will not change our way of life than to take a relaxing driving vacation and see America. In spite of everything gas is still cheap, and there's plenty to see. I've got a new mountain bike rack for my SUV and plan to stop at the Grand Tetons on the way to Chicago. Any suggestions for bike trips in the Tetons?

The Islamo-terrorists are the real assholes. What's wrong with enjoying our lives and having fun on a relaxing vacation while the terrorists burn? Sue me, but it sounds like exactly what Americans should be doing.
