The Loyal Opposition

Can you spot what’s wrong with this headline?

“Democrats may block impeachment resolution in California”

With Democrats like these, why do we bother running candidates against Republicans at all?

Dan, I understand you're doing well with your ITMFA movement, but why impeachment? Dick Cheney becomes President. Is this a superior outcome? Face it- the whole impeachment angle is just masterbation.

Obviously, that's why Cheney's VP in the first place - he's even more repulsive than #43. A foil against potential impeachment, and potential assassination as well (which I am NOT advocating, by the way, NSA). Of course, though, Cheney already gets what he wants without his face being in the limelight. Let's drag this f-er out into public view for all to despise, the hideous face of the neocons, if that's what it's gonna take to innoculate an oil-drunk and tv-entertainment-addled public.

much agreement with hijacked...who cares if impeachment makes cheney pres? he's more impeachable than bush, especially if rove and scooter flip on him in the plame case...president dennis hastert anyone?

Impeachment is good from a strategic point of view: Impeaching Bush and or Cheney would taint the republican party and its potential 2008 presidential candidates with the stench of deceit and corruption and hurt their chances.

dream on

I'm with Peter.

Impeachment, as we saw with Clinton, is a huge timesuck and a distraction. If Bush and Cheney—can't we can impeach both at once?—tied down with impeachment proceedings, they'll have less time on their hands for destroying the country.

Me thinks that the Democratic Party has spent too much time next to the shit storm that are republicans. That stink is starting soak in...

Is a feel-good resolution that will amount to nothing as long as the GOP controls the House worth derailing local legislation that might actually accomplish something?

I'm all for states where this isn't a concern lobbing these hand grenades into the Bush trenches, but let's not forget that life outside of the Iraq War and impeachment continues.

Let's say Dems here were considering passing an impeachment bill and that it could actually pass. Would it be worth scuttling Republican support of the gay rights bill and the transportation package just to bring it to the floor?

My support only assumes the republicans can win one or both houses of congress. At the state level, impeachment is nothing much more than symbolism.

oops, I mean democrats.

Bing: If Bush and Cheney were both impeached and convicted, and if the Democrats win the House, then Nancy Peolsi will be President of the United States of America.

Democrats control both houses of the California Legislature. But leaders may be wary of losing Republican support for budget and tax measures, which require a two-thirds majority for passage under California law, one legislative insider told RAW STORY.

Well, it's either put through an impeachment measure that probably dies in Congress... and at the same time lose any shot at passing their measures back home... or not bother and not end up losing elephant support.

Really, tabling this for now is a pretty good decision. They should wait until 2007 when they may have more Congressional support.
