“I apologize for the crude but effective language.”

Posted by on April 5 at 14:01 PM

So said Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi yesterday after stating that only “dickheads” (coglioni) would vote for his left-leaning opposition.

During Berlusconi’s re-election campaign so far, he has vowed to abstain from sex (for the duration of the campaign), compared himself to Greats like Napoleon and Jesus, and claimed that seven out of nine sex workers have pledged to vote for him.

Oh, and he’s accused all communists of eating babies.

Forza Italia—Go Italy!

I love the quote in Tobias Jones's "The Dark Heart of Italy" where he says that Berlusconi "isn't actually a Fascist; he's an anti-anti-Fascist". Only in Italy does that distinction make any sense--where popular figures can talk openly about being Fascists (or Communists, for that matter).

Was it ever established wether that really was Berlusconi pretending to dry-hump the meter maid in that video making the rounds last week?

So I guess his screwing of Italy is metaphorical, not simulated. Lovely. He's still a grade A putz. A couple of years ago he passed a law that makes it legal for a business to keep a separate set of books for the taxman.

so basically, he's dick cheney's inner-dialogue.

I thought “dickhead” was “testa di cazzo” as in “ Sei una testa di cazzo” or You’re a dickhead.

coglioni means balls ( the fuzzy Italian kind); thus the Italian expression rompi i coglioni (very common in Italia) or ball busters, which can be used to call someone annoying.

Im just saying Yo.

Berlusconi is a douche bag, but as long as he continues to own Milan's premier football club, he and his peeps at Forza Italia will continue to be elected. The commies have won tons of seats in Umbria, Tuscana and Napoli, but the rich north of Milan, Verona, Torino continue to be Berlusco's turf.

I speak no italian whatsoever, Seme, so you might be right. "dickhead" was stolen from the UK Timesonline article I referenced. Maybe it's slang or something. God knows who can decipher what kids (or politicians) are saying these days.

Either way, I *heart* reading about Berlusconi. He's a one man freak show.
