Chef Quits Southpark…

Posted by on March 13 at 17:05 PM

Isaac Hayes just quit his career-reviving gig on South Park because… well, because the show finally got around to making fun of his religion:

Hayes, who has played the ladies’ man/school cook in the animated Comedy Central satire since 1997, said in a statement Monday that he feels a line has been crossed.

“There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins,” the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said. “Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored,” he continued. “As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices.”

Matt Stone ain’t having it:

“South Park” co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply in an interview with The Associated Press Monday, saying, “This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology… He has no problem — and he’s cashed plenty of checks — with our show making fun of Christians.”

I hope we’ll be seeing a South Park episode about this next season.

Holy shit! Whose side to I pick on this one? Bat shit crazy, litigious Scientology or gay-baiting libertarian GOP supporters?

Fuck it. I'll just let this one be theater.

I can't wait to see how Mssrs. Parker e' Stone explain Chef's prolonged absence from the cafeteria...

I would like to thank Isaac for expressing his outrage without
1) burning down any embasies
2) screaming "what about the Jews! you can't say anything about the jews without {fill in the blank}....."
3) demanding a meeting with President Bush, and presidential apology along with reasurance it will not happen again.
4) demanding that congress outlaw the satire of scientology.
Thanks Isaac!

I bet the season premiere is about how Chef left to become a scientologist, and came back sounding strangely different....

chef has barely been on in the last few seasons anyway. and i doubt they'd make another scientology episode...the tom cruise episode pretty much covered all they needed to say about scientology. if this battle continues, expect it to be outside of the show.

The real shame: Barry White is already dead, so he cannot just take over Chef's role. But surely Stone and Parker can find someone else to do this voice? Samuel L. Jackson?

Chef sang my favorite song on the South Park movie soundtrack - six-nine, six-nine, nine, six-nine! Oh how I will miss him.

All religions are stupid and should be made fun of. I'd like one person who believes in miracles to show me one person who has grown a new arm, leg, hand or foot. That would be a miracle. How many of you believe in slavery? Show me one verse in the Bible that speaks up against slavery. Then take the case of Adam who was supposed to die on the very day he ate the forbidden fruit and then lived 930 years. Some say he died spiritually but show me in the Bible where it says that.

"But surely Stone and Parker can find someone else to do this voice? Samuel L. Jackson?"

Stan: Hey, Chef!
Chef: What's up, you motherfucking kids?

That episode aired, what, six months or more ago? He didn't say anything at that time, in fact he defended them on a couple of occasions that I saw. I guess the Sea Org finally got to him and threatened his ass if he didn't take some kind of stand.

I never heard about Isaac complaining when South Park made fun of christians, jews, or blain-tologists. Jesus is a regular character on the show and nobody was upset by this. They showed God's true form as something that came out of an animal planet origy and nobody complained. The second they do something satirical about Isaac's religon though he flips??? Sounds like he needs to get some things figured out in his own list of priorities. Screw Chef...
