...but so fucked up. the heart is deceitful above all things, indeed.

am i crazy for thinking of jd salinger while reading this piece? the whole reclusive writer thing makes me think that knoop & co. definitely have a copy of "nine stories" on the shelf.

Yeah, it's fucked up, deceitful, disheartening, perhaps--but the end result, this whole construct of creating and writing and selling "JT Leroy," seems to be a more interesting and valuable work of art than anything "JT Leroy" actually purported to write...

...i am in absolute agreement with you, mr. schmader. both books were insultingly dull and predictable, which is really saying a lot given the subject matter.

While looking over the packaging of my Criterion collection DVD of "My Own Private Idaho", I found that one of the extras on disc 2 is an audio interview of Gus Van Sant by JT Leroy. Haven't listened to it yet as the Todd Haines interview appealed to me more. Totally fascinating how the scam worked and then went down.
