Houston, We Have an Opening

Posted by on February 13 at 15:23 PM

While the Stranger looks for a music intern, the Weekly is advertising on Craigslist for a music editor…

Music Editor

Seattle Weekly has an immediate opening for a music editor. This fulltime position entails planning and editing the weekly music section, writing feature stories and a weekly column, and working with freelance writers. Qualified candidates will have strong writing and organizational skills, and will be well-versed in rap, hip-hop, DJ/dance and indie rock. An editing test is part of the interview process.

Interested? Well, don’t call the Weekly’s offices, don’t drop off your resume at the Weekly’s offices, and if you see the Weekly’s editor or publisher on the street—or, haw-haw, in the clubs—don’t bother asking them about the job. Because they’re not the ones doing the hiring. Anyone who wants to work at the Weekly these days needs to get in touch with the folks who are really running the publication—and they’re in Houston, not Seattle.

Applicants should send a cover letter, résumé and five best clips to:

OMG -- what happened to Michealangelo Matos?

Gone.

HA HA?

Skip Berger says the Weekly is a matriarchy. That must be more the case now that our new owners have cut his balls off. And Terry's too.

Having been scooped on the whole grunge thing, I guess they don't want to miss the next big thing. Say, why don't they just move a country music writer from Houston to Capital Hill? Tell him to bring his chaps, hat, and horse.

fact is, they're gonna be hard pressed to find anyone as well versed in rap AND hiphop as matos. unless they, yknow, go outside.

"what happened to Michealangelo Matos?"

He's moving to NYC in March to work as managing ed. of eMusic. Buh-bye.

Interested applicants can send their stuff to Houston, or they can send them to me here in Seattle.

As Dan knows, having just lost his music editor to New Times' SF Weekly, new VVM corporate is quite involved in local hires, but not to the degree he implies.

Just out of curiosity, what will you do with the applications? Sort them and forward them on to Houston? Keep up the good work!

Ooooh, snap!

OK, which is more entertaining?

1) The puppet who posts on Slog all the time who makes a snap about one's knowledge of a certain genre of music because he "doesn't go outside" enough?... or
2) The bitch royale between the New Clear Times puppet versus the puppetmaster of puppets that all hate its master?

I'm siding with 2 here. 1 was just a lame comment from an, unfortunately, boring column writer (as much as i love hip hop.) 2 has more potential for laughs.

oho. just seemed to me that matos' knowledge of our local hiphop scene was inversely proportionate to the swiftness he'd dickride a newly-popular local act. don't know a crew in town that didn't think cat was a dick, if they'd even heard of em. thanks for your feedback.
