Faux-sama bin Laden

Posted by on January 23 at 16:25 PM

Bush was in deep shit a couple of weeks ago… domestic spying… the war… and suddenly a new Osama tape surfaces… in which Osama threatens the USA with more attacks… and Osama recommends a book on the anti-war left’s reading list… and Osama uses language that sounds like Dem talking points… and yet White House doesn’t raise the terror alert level despite the new threat…

Could it be that it wasn’t really Osama on that tape? And does the White House know it wasn’t Osama?

It’s clear the White House was manipulating terror alert levels before the 2004 election. An Osama tape turning up right now is awfully convenient—just like all those terror alerts were in 2003 and 2004. Does the White House know the tape is fake and verified it anyway?

Hell, I wouldn’t put making a fake Osama tape past George W. Bush and his cronies

I'd bet even money it was fake.

But I'd put ten bucks against 100 to one odds Al Quada hits the superbowl.

It's gotta be a million to one they could hijack the Goodyear Blimp.

Hijack the Goodyear blimp you say? Hey, that sounds like a great plot for a movie; and or course, it was, about 25 years ago.
I didn't vote for President Bush. But when you talk about a fake tape of Osama, please give me a break. His minions are reprehensible and unscrupulous but they don't have that much talent on board. Additionally, they aren't that clever.
My hunch is if they did a video of Osama, the microphone would be in some of the shots, like some old Ed Wood film.
Look, Osama is still alive and he wants us to leave Saudi Arabia, as well as Iraq. He wanted the former before the latter happened. Which makes the invasion of Iraq that much less wise.
If I was a betting man, I'd take that bet which was offered. But sadly, it is the same old Osama we have seen for years, engendered and nutured by the CIA during the Afghan war against the former U.S.S.R. in the 1980s. Ain't payback a bitch?

Assuming for a moment that Osama is real and the tape was real, the first question that occurred to me was, why would Osama release a tape that clearly supports Bush's talking points? Chris Matthews even took the bait on demonizing the American left. Osama basicaly said "Boo! I'm the boogeyman, and I'm in Iraq, and beware my evil powers to strike your country any time I want to, though I know your country has many dissenters who side with me, Emannuel Goldstein."

Once again, assuming it's all real, the best answer I can muster is that Osama is a pretty smart guy, and he knows that Bush has been good to him. If his ultimate goal is to topple the House of Saud and lead an Islamic revolt, then civil unrest, chaos and oppressive conditions in the Middle East are good things for him.

Bin Laden and Bush might not be on each other's payrolls, but they support one another nonetheless. It's like they take turns being either the bully or the awkward kid in a playground fight.

Given ObL's connections with the right and with Dub's father, I'm all but certain they're wagging the dog.

Yes, assuming the tape is real, let's look to the motives.

Osama wants a full scale war of cultures. Osama believes he speaks on behalf of Allah, and that he is heralding the war of the end times. He cannot do that without an enemy who takes a similar but opposite world view.

Osama without Bush, or Bush without Osama, would seem poorly suited to lead a culture into the twenty first century.

Lucky for each, they have the other to hate.

It does not require a conspiracy theory to suggest that both benefit from inflaming the conflict.
