Weird Devo News

Posted by on December 21 at 10:33 AM

But then again, what other kind of Devo news is there?

Devo changed the way people thought of music in the 1980s. Now, with Devo 2.0, the band will change the face of kids’ music—and introduce the concept of “de-evolutionā€¯ to a new generation. The original band has re-recorded its iconic hits and asked five talented kids to sing them on CD. An accompanying DVD offers surreal animated music videos directed by Ā Gerry Casale. Both feature the first new Devo tracks in twenty years: “Cyclopsā€¯ and “The Winner.ā€¯ The self-titled album and dvd will be released on March 17th on Disney Sound.

That's f'd up. To add to that, Mothersbaugh also recently told The Believer he snuck the subliminal message "sugar is bad for you" into a cereal commercial and "question authority" into a kid's show tune.
Maybe there is hope for the next generation!

I've heard a similar thing has been going on with the Residents. That they've been grooming their kids to take over the band. However, given the anonymous nature of the group, no one will ever really know when the secession occurred!

God bless them.

Considering that Mothersbaugh did the Rugrats theme and many other kid-friendly TV tunes, this isn't entirely surprising.

However, I'm guessing "Pink Pussycat" won't be among the rerecorded songs.
