Matt Drudge: Racist Fuck?

Posted by on December 13 at 11:55 AM

During the run-up to Tookie Williams’ execution yesterday, Matt Drudge played to his bigoted base by running this very old photo of Williams:

Tookie Then.jpg

Drudge’s message: “Look at the very scary black dude—of course he’s a murderer! Kill him!”

But here’s a more recent picture of the man who was actually put to death yesterday in California:

Tookie Now.jpg

Not quite so intimidating, not quite the fearsome black male figure that terrifies white conservatives. I’m surprised that no one has called bullshit on Drudge for being a manipulative, lying, racist fuck.

Yup, totally Dan. That's the first thing I thought when I saw that B.S. posted on Drudge. The guy's such a sensationalist a**hole.

Thanks for calling him on it.

yeah, but the consolation is that Matt Grudge is a self-hating homo. He was undoubtedly jacking off to the thought of Tookie's big black cock fucking his lily white ass while posting that picture...

All that said... Tookie Williams WAS a founding member of the Crips who killed four innocent people and bragged about it later.

It doesn't make what Drudge said right, but keep in mind the precedent that granting a convicted murderer mercy would have set.

Free Tookie Williams? Did everyone forget that he was a founding gang member that killed four people for no reason? I don't care if the man if the man was lily white, or what you think about the death penalty: claiming this man is innocent is flat out crossing the line of credibility. He did something terrible, much more terrible than most people serving life sentences. Does he deserve a sentence equal to someone who, say, kills one person, in the form of a life sentence at a cost of thousands of taxpayer dollars for every day he continues to live?

I know I'm going to get serious disagreement on this, but at the least you have to admit that calling Tookie innocent is far fetched at best.

Of course the second picture is just as posed as the first. That message being - he's innocent and should be freed - look how remorseful he is.

Propaganda is still propaganda.

Who said he was innocent? Who said he should have been freed? Disagreeing with the idea that he should be murdered by the state doesn't mean you think they should let him go. And the "look how much it costs to keep someone in jail" argument is weak sauce. The death penalty is either right or it's wrong, and how much it costs has not a thing to do with it. We're not seriously arguing that we have to kill people because it's cheaper, are we? Talk about barbaric.

'The death penalty is either right or it's wrong' is a flawed statement because 'right' and 'wrong' are completely subjective. By what standards is the death penalty, as you imply, wrong?

And you know what's really barbaric? Gunning down four people and bragging about it later. Writing children's books doesn't change the fact that Tookie Williams is a gang member and a murderer. Don't get carried away in your amnesty.

We're not seriously arguing that we have to kill people because it's cheaper, are we? Talk about barbaric.

I don't know who you're arguing with - 'cause I've never made that argument. Here I was simply pointing out that the two pictures are equally posed and are both propaganda.

Execution is not, really, a black and white issue. It's wrong the State to kill and it's wrong for individuals to kill. Nobody is comes out on the side of the angels in this debate.

The best you can say is that Mr. Williams was executed after due process and a decades long pause for consideration.

His victims did not have that luxury.
