The idea of zombie is a good vehicle for social commentary

Posted by on September 20 at 12:52 PM

This just in: Seattle Zombie Walk 2005. It’s possibly the weirdest event ever.

Halloween is coming…and I’m looking for creative people who want to stagger, lope, and crawl in Seattle Zombie Walk 2005. This entails amassing a horde of people, dressed as zombies, to walk the streets of Seattle.

Why?

Because it’s darn creepy, and I think the idea of zombie is a good vehicle for social commentary. I was inspired by the movie “Shawn of the Dead” and think it is hilarious to slowly become aware of neighbors as Zombies.

The event's headed up by Cleo Zombie, and she's offering three chances to don your zombie gear:

October 15 — Ballard

Start: 3:45pm sharp meet at the "Segway" building on 56th and 18th

4:00 Walk down Market St. and mill around the Ballard Sat. Street fair.

Finish: 6:30 or so @ The People's Pub- 5429 Ballard Ave.

October 29 — Fremont

Start: 1:45pm sharp MEET AT THE TROLL IN FREMONT under the Aurora bridge.

Milling in Fremont from 2:00pm -5:00PM

Finish: around 5:00 PM George and The Dragon Pub at 206 N 36th St.

HALLOWEEN!!!
October 31 — Capitol Hill

Start: 4:00 SHARP AT THE RESERVOIR, Between Olive and Denny on Nagle

Finish: 7:00PM Pike Place Market

* TRY TAKING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE EVENT, AND TRAVEL IN
GROUPS!

Still not convinced you want to do the zombie thing? Hit 'em, Cleo:

If you think this is all far fetched. Bite on this: I found out...there was a 300 person Zombie Walk in Vancouver this August!!!!

Potentially useful things to keep in mind:

Causes of zombie-ness:

As everyone knows - or should know - zombies are usually
attributable to one or more of the following:

1. voodoo
2. science gone astray - chemical or biological accidents, experiments, viruses and the like
3. the apocalypse

Of course, there are many more possibilties. Be creative. Corpses in all stages of decay are encouraged.

For the low-budget zombie:

1. Oatmeal and liquid latex works wonders.
2. Food colouring and corn syrup makes convincing blood, but sticky.
However, also tasty.
3. Value Village - but I'm sure it's hardly necessary to mention that.

Finally: As mentioned previously - zombies are only really effective when travelling together in large groups. Bring your friends, foes, family and other loved ones.

Nothing says you love someone quite like caking yourself in make-up, limping down the street together and eating them in the park!

MEANWHILE CHECK SOME ZOMBIE MOVIES TO GET INTO THE MOOD....
On my top 6 list are....

28 Days Later
Return of the Living Dead.
Resident Evil- Apocalypse
Serpent and the Rainbow
Dawn of the Dead
Shawn of the Dead

Thanks for reading all this....
