re: boredom & gangsta rap
Dave, what do you mean by this:
If a rapper survives a shooting (hello, 50), he/she usually benefits commercially“He/she”? Which woman has ever been shot in the recorded history of hiphop? Getting blasted has solely been the business of the black American male. I don’t think there’s even one white (male) rapper who has been shot dead or alive. As for women, Lil Kim is the one example of female criminality in hiphop, and it is a case very much in the tradition of the gangster moll. So, don’t do this “he/she” nonsense when it comes to hiphop gun violence. It is all about, and can only be about, “he.”
